Mallory Busiris

Baron of Rugstall

Barron (formerly)

Mallory Busiris was the last Baron of Rugstall, mentioned in the legend The Fall of Rugstall. Many believe he never really existed and that the story is instead a cautionary tale about the dangers of selfishness and cowardice as there is no record of Rugstall on any maps. However there are a select few across the planes of Winval that know his story is no mere faction, nor has it reached its end.

Physical Description

Body Features

Mallory’s right arm is amputated from the elbow downwards following a fight with Lucius Rotezunge in which they bit into his forearm and torn out the tendons, infecting his arm with their vampiric blood and forcing him to cut it off. While serving under bane he used an arcane stone prosthetic, however, since abandoning him he now simply pins his sleeve up.

Special abilities

Formerly an ancient and powerful Warlock, and in present a very capable and well versed wizard, Mallory has always been an incredibly powerful magic user with centuries of experience following the tragic death of his wife in 12BSO. The true extent of his power is yet to be seen, some previous displays include but are not limited to: mass puppetry and control of corpses in a wide spread area, the summoning and control of powerful otherworldly entities, use of the ancient power words particularly those of a destructive nature, long distance teleportation entirely undetected.

Apparel & Accessories

Mallory Busiris wears a perfectly tailored, red suit with a hyena fur - collared long coat over the top. his cane is carved from obsidian with a ruby mounted in the top. An elaborate gold rapier hangs at his hip, concealed by his long over coat. His right hand was formerly replaced by a heavy black gauntlet engraved with red eldritch runes. Underneath the gauntlet was a stone, skeletal frame which was puppeteered through eldritch magic.

Specialized Equipment

Housed within the tomb of Caleena Busiris lay a large mirror now lost following the destruction of Busiris Spire. Those who looked into the mirror were forced to relive the most traumatic and upsetting events of their lives. This mirror had been created by Mallory in order to remind himself of why he was committing such evil acts.

Personal history

The beginning of Mallory’s life follows very true to the Fall of Rugstall fable. He was born to a noble family in the long forgotten city of Rugstall and came to inherit its rule along with his family’s castle, the Rugstall spire. One day the city of Rugstall was attacked by a war and of gnolls Who razed the population causing Mallory to lock himself and his pregnant wife Caleena within the towers inner chambers. However this was to no avail, and as he witnessed his unborn son and wife be devoured by the ravenous beasts he stepped out onto his royal address balcony and tossed himself off.   As he fell, time began to slow down. In a strange liminal space Mallory was met by a large figure dressed all in black plate mail, the God of hatred, Bane. Seeing great potential in the fear and resentment bubbling within Mallory, bane offered him eternal life and limitless power and in return Mallory would devote his life to finding a way to reverse death both for his wife and for his new master.   Centuries passed as the baron locked himself away in the ruins of his former kingdom. He grew more and more powerful day in day out, hiding his entire city from the rest of the world Through a wide spread concealment spell with the tower itself acting as an arcane focus. All to no avail.   Nearly three millennia after the beginning of his study, Mallory first encountered The Gay Dragon Adventuring Guild, a group of adventurers who would prove to hinder his plans on several occasions, never truly learning of his intentions until their final confrontation where, aided by Luck and the Pussycats, the two adventuring parties were able to defeat Mallory and learn of his tragic life. Pitying the broken man, Ophelius Dawn called upon the gods of Mercuria to relinquish Caleena’s soul and let it find Mallory’s within The Void where a small liminal space was formed for them free of Bane’s tyranny.   Mallory lived with Caleena undisturbed for many years, welcoming and guiding a few lost souls that happened to find his homestead whilst drifting across the void. One such soul was Prince Shane Gallowater, whom he took an immediate liking too almost viewing him as the son he had never had. The former warlock gifted Shane a mysterious piece of parchment, instructing him to only tear it in an emergency, which is exactly what happened when a desperate Shane on deaths door tore the fabric to save his party members, dragging Mallory back into the material plane to rescue them. This act was not without its risks however, and Mallory now finds himself bed ridden and trapped in a coma induced by the horrors of the void.
