Overview
Throughout the ages, the
Elves of
Empyrion have revered a rich tapestry of deities, each embodying the natural forces of the world -
night and day, wind and water, etc. - and the myriad facets of mortal experience -
love, hate, charity, greed, etc. - As centuries passed, some of these ancient gods faded into obscurity, their names almost forgotten, whispered only in old tales or remembered by a few. However, those deities that remained became known as the
Gods of Twilight. Though these gods were rejected by many Elven cultures out of fear and stigma, they are still worshipped in secret by those who claim not to be blinded by the light, seeking the hidden truths and mystical boons that these enigmatic gods offer.
The current pantheon, venerated across
Valleria,
Illyos, and
Thalesse, is known as the
Holy Pantheon, though they are most commonly referred to simply as
The Pantheon, or
The Nine. These nine gods and goddesses embody the virtues and ideals that the western Elves hold most dear -
concepts of order, justice, growth, and wisdom. Their worship is not just a matter of tradition, but a vibrant, living faith, woven into the very fabric of Elven society. Temples dedicated to these deities grace every city, their spires reaching towards the heavens, while smaller shrines dot the landscape, offering solace and guidance to travelers and locals alike. Each city often selects a
patron deity from among The Nine, a divine protector whose influence shapes the city's destiny, culture, and architecture, creating a unique bond between the divine and the mortal realms.
