Padmathara

The Serene Rajahnate of Padmathara (Padmatharan रजनमयुर फदमथ, Rajanamayura Phadamathara; Cathlan Kongqe Xiatan; Kanchan Selatan), also known in the Gloaming North as the Kingdom of Padmathara, is a great power of the Eternal East.   Counting its vassals as controlled territory, Padmathara borders the Cathlan Empire and Gomparang to the north, Kancha La to the east, and the Free Counties to the west.

Kingdoms of the Feather

Thousands of years ago, the Suruwat people, an ethnic group native to the lush Zonammad Islands situated to the south of the continent, were taken under the wing of the Great Peacock and cultivated to serve as his foot soldiers in the war against the giants. The Titanocracy of Arpak-La crumbled in the Eternal East and the Suruwat people grow to develop an advanced civilisation with the acquisition of domesticated water buffalo and maize from trade networks with the northern parts of the continent and the Gloaming North. The Gudjerad people native to southeastern coast of the Eternal East were displaced as the Suruwat people sailed northward, conquering the coasts north of their homeland. The Suruwat gradually seized the deltas of the Glimmering Ocean and eastern coastlines of the southern continent over decades of raids and settlement. The peacock's most devout followers, the Zhotl dynasty, consolidated its rule over the south of the continent, moving gradually inland through successive conquests, subjugating more native Gudjerad peoples to their rule. The Sublime Peacock ruled directly from the Alabaster Throne, with the Zhotl kings managing mortal affairs, until the coming of the manticores and his disappearance from the Realms of the Sleeper.

Xuan

With the Phoenix missing, the lands of the southern continent fell to the yoke of the burgeoning Heavenly Xuan, and were incorporated as provinces of the vast empire. The Phoenix Rises   In approximately 2000 PRD, the Sublime Peacock returned to the lands of the Eternal East. The Suruwat peoples ecstatically welcomed the return of their patron God, their prophecies validated. However, the religious unrest caused by the return of a being denied to be a divine entity under Xuan doctrine subsequently triggered civil unrest throughout the continent. An emboldened Suruwat separatist movement seceded from Xuan, lead by the newly titled Glorious Phoenix, triggering a full scale civil war that ultimately brought about the collapse of Heavenly Xuan.

The Great Collapse

The historiographical term Great Collapse period refers to the several warring Suruwat-ruled states created the Yaqshan Dynasty. Traditionally, its fourteen key regions were the warrior-principalities of Ytlitl, Jeredi, Sanzhuai, Zimdan, Diszlat and Harahur, the warlord states of Bay, Shin, Tla, Ren and Szoto, and the city-states of Dshinyo, Kabaty and Dantriyasz.

Structure

Padmathara has for most of its existence been ruled as an absolute monarchy, with the power of the Royal Family shifting from dynasty to dynasty and ruler to ruler. Since the enthronement of of Mahar Padaburajat in 721 RD, the Royal Family has been characterised by a fascination with the ruling systems of the Gloaming North, with Mahar styling his government as an enlightened monarchy, embracing the principles of logic and rationality over mysticism into his family's rule. Across his reign, rights to education and religious tolerance were promoted, as well as a limited degree of freedom of speech for all classes of society. In 729, the Raja codified into common law the right for wealthy persons outside of nobility to purchase and own state property, granted that the land was used to enrich and advance the Padmathara state and people.
