The Shadowroot tree is often found in forested areas, where it grows tall and slender, reaching heights of up to 50 feet. The tree prefers moist soil and total shade, but can also tolerate full sun in cooler climates. The branches will curl around other trees creating massive protected areas that are at times their own ecosystem. Many small mammals and incects rely on its protection.
