Darklings
The Darklings are a species of demihumans created through an overuse of the powers of theĀ
Ancient of Night. They aren't particularly feared or hated like most demihumans as, despite their names and power, they are generally closed off from society, sticking to their own and establishing small communities were humans usually don't live.
Their dislike towards strong lights makes them stick to places that are abandoned, distant from large cities (although small towns are more or less alright), usually more common the further you get form the equator.

Anatomy
All darklings share white hair and their skin looks like it's made of darkness.
Biological Traits
Darklings are nocturnal demihumans. They grow stronger in the dark and are weakened in the light. They're highly vulnerable to any attack that directly produce light and are moderately vulnerable to attacks that produce bright lights as a side effect.
All darklings can innately merge into darkness and shadows and travel through them.
Genetics and Reproduction
They are capable of having children with each other and with baseline humans. Every resulting child will be born a darkling. Their odds of successful conception increase the darker the surroundings while bright lights can potentially result in miscarriages.
Ecology and Habitats
Darklings prefer places that are dark. Cities with significant levels of light pollution are a poor fit for them. They're more commonly found in suburban and rural areas, but it's not uncommon to encounter them in abandoned and mostly ruined parts of cities or in their Alternates.
Behaviour
They are by default nightowls due to being creations of the Ancient of Night and they detest light pollution due to their vulnerabilities to the light.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Darklings have excellent night vision. In fact they go beyond that and have their eyesight effectively reversed when compared to normal humans - they see better the less light is there.
