Nymphs

One of the various demihuman species of the Primordial of Water, Nymphs are the most common of Water's creations due to the oceans covering two-thirds of the planet. Water is life, literally, for Nymphs. They cannot survive for too long away from bodies of water.   Initiate scholars believe them to be the origin of the numerous myths and legends involving supernatural women tied to bodies of water, such as the Lady of the Lake of Arthurian legends, some variants of mermaid stories, and so on.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Nymphs are beings made of water, and they can manipulate their bodies to look like as they once did as humans, or look like a puddle. They can also use this manipulation of their own bodies to move around like directed water currents.   They have a particular tendency to look like beautiful women, even the male Nymphs.

Genetics and Reproduction

Nymphs are capable of reproducing with each other and baseline humans. If a Nymph has a child with another Nymph, that child will always by a Nymph.   If a Nymph has a child with a baseline human, there is a 50/50 chance that child will be born as either a Nymph or a human. Stillborns or miscarriages however are the norm when a Nymph carries a human child or a human carries a Nymph child. In the former case, the human fetus tends to drown. In the latter case, without the innate magic of the Primordial of Water, a Nymph fetus cannot hold their form properly.

Nymphs are capable of reproducing with the other demihumans of the Primordials, especially their fellow demihuman species of the Primordial of Water, but successful conception and birth are even rarer in such cross-relationships.

Ecology and Habitats

Nymphs are dependent on having bodies of water to thrive in. Clean bodies of water are preferred while heavily polluted ones make better homes forĀ  Sludges instead of Nymphs.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Nymphs are most commonly encountered near rivers or coastlines, but they are also large numbers living in the open oceans.   Dry regions are anathema to them and it is unheard of to find Nymphs just living in the various deserts of the world. The only scenario where one would encounter a Nymph in the middle of a desert is when a mage becomes a Nymph due to magic overuse and if they don't find bodies of water quickly, their life expectancy can be measured in days, if that.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

In water form, despite the lack of obvious sensory organs, they are still very much capable of utilising human senses.
