Splits

Creations of the Archon of Transfiguration, they're rare and not fully understood. Magical scholars can't even agree on how to classify them. Some believe Splits should be classified as Demihumans, others say they are Lesser Aberrants, and a third faction argues that Splits are neither and should be considered their own category. The more mischievous Splits say they should be classified as either Undeads or Cryptids, but no one takes them or their proposed theories seriously.

Splits can exist separately from the original follower of the Lore of Transfiguration they split from, the Original. The relationship between each Original-Split pair is dependent on each unique pair. Some are the best of friends, while some Originals treat their Split as a nuisance.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The appearance of a Split is dependent on the Original's subconscious. They tend to look outright human but there is at least one documented case of a Split that looks like a demihuman of another Power, and successfully fooled even experts into believing that they actually are an ordinary demihuman until circumstances forced the Split's hands.

Genetics and Reproduction

Splits are created from magical accidents involving a user of the Lore of Transfiguration that results in that user producing a literal split personality. Upon being created, they literally take some personality traits from the Original. For example, a Split could take the Original's empathy and sense of humour, leaving the Original jaded and apathetic.

It is unknown if Splits are capable of normal reproduction. Splits are so rare that there are no documented cases of them even attempting to have kids, much less successfully.

Growth Rate & Stages

There are three possible final endings for a Split.

The first is that the original user of Transfiguration dies, which will immediately cause the Split to die with them.

The second is that the Split dies. While this does not directly affect the Original, it does mean the bits of their personality the Split took are lost with no chance of regaining them unless the Original manages to redevelop those missing traits.

The third ending is that the Split re-merges with the original person. This will cause the Original to regain the personality traits the Split took, and their appearance will be a merger between what they used to look like and that of the Split. Once a Split re-merges with the Original, that specific Split cannot come into being again, regardless of how much the original person wishes for them to come back into being.

Behaviour

Splits are literal split personalities. Their general behaviour is dependent on which personality traits they take from the original person.

One universal constant though is that they care and are protective about the Original, to the point of sacrificing themselves and ending their existence as an independent being if that's what it takes to save the Original.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

A Split will always know they are a Split. The original person they split off from won't necessarily know their Split is actually a Split.

Split's are capable of innately understanding what the original person feels. Both the Original and the Split also functionally have double the resistance to sanity and corporeal damage of an ordinary person, as they are two people, even if they used to be one.
