Cult of Sasakia

Culture

The cult is centered around their patron god, Sasakia, God of Butterflies. Under her leadership, the cult dictates that decay in all forms is a part of the wider process of life and death, and that neither is inherently good or evil. Life, death, decay, and growth are viewed as holy in of themselves, but also part of the mundane the same as the passage of time, rising and setting of the sun, or the tides. Simultaneously, rotting and decaying matter is holy, but also normal.   As rot and decay is a central part of their belief system and culture, the cult has positioned itself as artisans in mastering it, with a great many of high ranking members of the cult belonging to sake brewing families, utilizing fermentation to create liquor for their offerings, rituals, and celebrations. Sake and other liquors created through fermentation are considered to be extremely high value offerings, and mastering the art of creating them one of the most holy things one can do with their life.   Food culture within the cult is extensive, with many recipes and artforms existing as far back and adapted from the human era. Hundreds of varieties of mushrooms are used as the main body of many dishes alongside rice, cabbage, pickled meats, and fermented fruits.
