Inquisitor
There is no shortage of cults that ban worship of certain gods, usually enemy gods in particular, and some cults ban the use of specific types of magic. Often the enforcement and overseeing of such rules is done by priests but some cults have people known as inquisitors who specialize in investigating or finding evidence of such infractions.
In some cults the term “inquisitor” refers to a type of detective that specializes in gathering evidence of someone worshiping outlawed gods or using illegal magic within a cult and simply report it to a priest so that said priest can perform the proper procedures.
Not all cults have inquisitors and in some the term “inquisitor” is purely unofficial. The term inquisitor is also often used as slang to refer to someone who is too nosy.
There was a time in the distant past where some inquisitors had a lot of power within specific cults and acted more akin to law enforcement or police but it has fallen out of favor due to corruption and misuse of power often being rife in those cases.
