Reddex History + Lore: Summarized
This article serves as a general jumping off point for the most basic components Reddex as a country, it's laws, beliefs and history.
Reddex Geography:
Reddex is a island country. It is primarily made up of grasslands and woodland, with exceptions like 'The Obsidian Desert', which is a land made up of black sand and unnatural weather or 'The Golden Wood' which is land of trees with glistening golden leaves or the snow cover mountain range of the North. The island has one capital; Godswill City, with several major cities like Crow's Roost and Seabreeze. Most of the island has been explored, with many dozens of towns and villages populating the country.
Reddex History:
Reddex was founded as country over 1400 years ago, first primarily populated by elves and men, with more races arriving with time. Reddex went through several different governmental types in its early years. Eventually great houses formed from the most powerful countries in the land and from these house's arose a feudal system.
Over many hundred years, the island has been ruled over by a single monarch, who delegates their power to the the great houses under their rule, who have a large amount of control over how their individual lands are run, whoever they still all show loyalty to one king. The current great houses: Ward, Beckett, Payne, Greyroost, Goldbrand, Lunargaze, Summersong and Deepforge, have been in power for quite some time, with Ward leading the nation for generations.
A peace was maintained for a long while and while the houses differ, they maintained a strong alliance.
Recent History:
Under the rule of King Arthur Ward, the nation was attacked around 40 years ago from the current year. This invasion came from the North, from across the sea. The orc king 'Urzar' had lead his people to the shores of Reddex, setting up a base of operations in the Northern Mountains and began to invade the rest of the island within time. The great houses nearly broke, unused to fighting such powerful foes, but eventually with superior numbers and magic, were able to defeat the invaders, sending them back to their home. This would be known as "The War of Winter".
Arthur Ward died in battle partway through the war and his son, Archibald, took up the throne, his rule extending to the present day. He is seen as a great and kind ruler, with the skills needed to bring victory.
Nearly 20 years later, and the nation is threatened by civil war. One of the minor houses of the Payne lands, 'House Rayne', launches a suprise attack with a vast network of secret traitor houses and allies from the neighbouring island of 'Myst'. Again the alliance barely stands but together the great houses win and the traitor houses are banished or executed. This would be known as "The War of the Banished".
Now in an age of peace, disturbance pollutes the land again as racism between man and elf unexpectedly soar and the leaders of the old world age. A new dawn is ahead.
Hierarchy of Power:
• Monarch - Ruler of entire country, control over nearly anything within the nation.
• Lord/Lady Paramount - Ruler of greater house land, control over most aspects of owned lands.
• Lord/Lady - Control over land such as towns, villages or large plots of land.
• Vassal - Controls a small plot of land.
• Commoner - Owns a single house or pays rent.
Religions:
Belief is part of most inhabitants of Reddex's life, some more than others. The island follows three primary religions:
• Order of the Divine:
The largest religion on the island, the core parts of the religion are the belief in three gods, Terra, Ventus and Caecus, who govern different aspects of the world and maintain balance. The religion does not believe in an afterlife, instead saying that it is a mortals duty to remain good, live and honest happy life and then return to the ground that bore them. The religion promotes community, peace of the mind and charity.
• Those-Who-See:
The religion with perhaps the most devote followers, primarily followed by elves, the religion is concerned with connecting oneself with the universe at large, though practices like meditation or even through psychedelics. Some special members of the religion are seers, people with ability to experience and share incredible visions. The head of the religion is the 'High Seer', someone who has the most clear visions and tap into the essence of the universe to the greatest extent.
• Veritas:
The newest religion in Reddex, followers of the religion believe in an eternal afterlife, which can achieved through prayer, good deeds and atoning for ones sins. They worship a single god; Veritas, a intersex god with six wings and a human form. The religion has been involved with a lot of controversy, as followers of the 'Order of the Divine' are beginning to drift to the new religion.
