Regal Dawn
When wars wage between armies of gods and men everyone knows there will be few survivors, when that war started nobody wanted to be part of it, but life as it was known hung in the balance.
The first act of war was the hunting of gods and champions, powerful arcane spellcasters; Wizards and Sorcerers, who seemed to turn against allies and comrades in the insatiable drive to hunt down those under deified banners with all their might. Next came the utter annihilation of the dragons, in one foul night dragons of all kin and kith dropped dead, from child to elder.
It was upon the death of the dragons that the war truly began. Gods fought besides men as man stood besides monster and undead alike to ensure the survival of what seemed to be existence itself and after nearly one hundred years the final blow was struck, the Mad God, the cause of the war, was slain in his mortal form. Nethys, who once stood as the god of magic itself, was slain.
What many did not know, however, is in dealing with the symptoms all had missed the disease. An Elder Brain, Yor'Kath, had corrupted the mind of the Mad God, and now his body was slain the control of magic itself was free to be consumed by the Elder Brain. From the Mad Gods body spewed a wave of miasma, corrupting all it touched to the power of the pure abyss. Those that had prepared evacuated the old world in favor of their new plane, the Guardian Plane.
300 years have passed, the old world remains a corrupted shell that only fools and gravediggers dare venture and control of the Guardian plane has been split and placed into 12 Shrines to 12 gods. Life on the new world is not easy and fighting continues, but it is a place people may actually survive.
