Day of New Growth

The Day of New Growth is an annual holiday in the Coalition celebrating the rebirth of their new world through events, feasts, and gift giving focused on children.
Historically, the holiday came from the realm of the Halflings and had more to do with celebrating spring and the arrival of new plants and animals. After the Connection and the realms started to see a rebirth with new life, new civilizations, and new magical and technological capabilities, the holiday morphed into one that celebrated the hope their new world has brought. 
It has also been quickly adopted throughout the Coalition as the people universally found the message of hope and rebirth to be necessary and inspirational after the hardships they had been through.
Celebrated in the springtime, the holiday is typically marked by community festivals and a large, centralized feast. Dishes are typically, though not always, vegetarian. Since ranchers would often bring their newborn livestock and set up little petting zoos for the kids, some found it distasteful to eat meat in such a setting.
In the cities, festivities are often grand, with local nobles spending lavish amounts on performers, chefs, and parades, all open to the common people. In more rural areas, festivities are more focused on community and vary drastically based on the skillset of the people in that area. In farm and ranch areas, they will often have food-based events or things like races or free riding lessons for kids. Areas that can get bards or theater troupes will make generous offers of hospitality to get them to perform.
Whatever the region, events will always be themed around the young and rebirth. Plays and songs will be family-friendly and themed for kids. Food will often be simple staples with a big focus on sweets. Games and parades are all over with bright, cardinal colors featuring heavily. Decorations will show off the plant life but must not kill the plants involved. Wreaths or cut flowers are a serious faux pax during the Day of New Growth as people are urged to remember that the new plants are a sign of the world regrowing.
