Faregea

Name pronunciation: fay-reh-dgee-uh

Structure

Evidence shows that Faregea was a highly complicated and varied religion before the Deepening. However, between the devastation to the population and the fact that people felt betrayed or forsaken by the powers that be, the official Order is far smaller and no longer has any political sway whatsoever. Individual finders---spiritual leaders---continue to look for signs of the gods' presence, favor, and plans. They also scramble to recover and copy holy texts and use them to guide remaining followers seeking help, blessings, or enchantments.

Mythology & Lore

There's one god for each of the magics—Fyso for force magic, Tempi for time magic, and Mutat for change magic, plus the nameless Fallen Queen representing mysterious wicked magic not accessible to humans responsible for evil and tragedy in the world, all born of the True Queen Fate, who is seen as the source and cause of all things. She’s fallen out of favor because she’s seen as an absentee landlady or a vengeful queen for flooding the world. Fyso, Tempi, and Mutat are seen as brothers, warring sons of True Queen Fate, sometimes cooperating for survival or pairing up against the third.   Strong magical ability is regarded as divine favor.

Divine Origins

Possibly evolved from archaic polytheistic religions with a focus on the three magic types.

Cosmological Views

The world was created by True Queen Fate and will be destroyed either by her (to create heaven) or by Fallen Queen (to create hell). When people die, their souls remain in the mortal world, just without ability to affect it. Whether the finders know the reason behind the True Queen Fate's creation and purpose of life or if it's just their quest to find it or if it's everyone's quest to find their own answer is a topic of heavy debate.

Tenets of Faith

Everything happens because of fate, which cannot be resisted or denied. Some claim that there is no free will, nothing is random, and all choices and actions were set since the beginning of time: there is a "script" none can deviate from. Others argue that free will manifests itself in the fact that everyone negotiated their own fate upon creation: there is a "script," but everyone had a say in it. A rare few say that there was a "script," but that it can be changed by free will, but that is sometimes seen as blasphemous.

Ethics

Deference must be given to strong magic users. Magic users ought to use their magic for good, as using it for bad is what the Fallen Queen wants (what's "good" and "bad" is heavily disputed).

Worship

Now very scattered; generally, use of magic, or giving sacrifices to magic users on the sacrificer's behalf, is good practice.

Priesthood

Preexisting finders "know" when they've met someone else fated to be a finder and teach them the basic holy texts. If they're deemed worthy, secrets are revealed to them on the basis of vows of silence. These secrets are said to regard the fate of the world and heavens, not only that of individual humans.   Finders must be powerful users of one of the three magic categories. They are usually split into groups based on those categories (force finders, time finders, and change finders). These categories often argue more than denomonations do.

Sects

There are many divisions, but mainly, they differ between a) their attitudes toward fate and b) their attitudes toward which of the 3 gods is the best/most powerful. Archetypal Faregean, or Archetypism, claims the "fixed script" fatal theory. Novel Faregean, or Novelism, claims the "free-will script" fatal theory. Fysoity, Tempity, and Mutatity respectively refer to the beliefs that Fyso, Tempi, or Mutat are the foremost of the gods.
