Tempory

A moderately rare form of magic. Allows users, “temporists,” to “transpire” living things through time at an altered rate. Solely innate.

Effect

Contrary to common belief, tempory doesn't actually alter time, just the rate at which an organism uses energy. Depending on the target area/organism and skill of the temporist, this can have a wide variety of effects. Decelerated or accelerated transpiration generally and most clearly leads to changing the rate of physical growth, healing of wounds, burning of calories, and oxygen use.   Neophyte temporists can only transpire one whole organism at a time at rates not too far from normal. Skilled temporists not only have greater ranges of acceleration and deceleration (which requires more energy), they can also transpire multiple organisms or only specific target areas of an organism.

Side/Secondary Effects

It takes energy to manipulate energy, so tempory use results in physical and mental fatigue, hunger, dizziness, weakness, irritability, and lowered inhibitions. Extended use of tempory, especially on one's self, can lead to cramps/chronic pain, decreased foresight skills or sense of consequences, and loss of temporal awareness. In rare cases, however, it has been known to lead instead to hyperawareness and obsession with the passing of time.   Organisms undergoing accelerated transpiration may feel lightheaded, short of breath, and energized. Organisms undergoing decelerated transpiration may feel lethargic, weak, heavy, and carefree or secure. Those who have more than a natural amount of tempory used on them over an extended period of time tend to develop a bodily resistance to the magic, meaning more energy is needed to produce the same results. Transpiring only specific target areas of a body results in these areas appearing to age differently than the rest of the body.

Manifestation

Rapid acceleration may result in visible changes, such as healed wounds or growing hair. Extreme acceleration is said to make nearby colors more vivid, while extreme deceleration mutes colors.
