Aasimar are a species of
planetouched humanoids with prominent celestial ancestry. They were often compared to
tieflings, though they were far less common.
Physiology
Most Aasimar looked nearly identical to their birth parents when they did not use their powers. However, some Aasimar manifested celestial-like appearances, such as halos, glowing eyes, odd-coloured skin, and other strange features. These features were usually determined by the celestial whose lineage they derived from, or the energy of the celestial plane that they received their abilities from.
Similar to Tieflings, most Aasimar were born from humans. Aasimar were also common among
elves and
dwarves, who called them
Daev’Alfar and
Einherjiar respectively. Aasimar displayed
recessive progeny dominance, meaning that most Aasimar did not have Aasimar parents. Occasionally, however, the celestial powers of an Aasimar passed from parent to child. Aasimar lived slightly longer than their birth parents’ species.
Aasimar manifested minor
esoteric harmonization, which made it easy for them to learn the
light spell. They also have many other celestial abilities, such as the power to heal wounds and “
celestial revelations”. Celestial revelations manifested in three primary forms: Radiant Soul, Radiant Consumption, and Necrotic Shroud.
Radiant Soul Aasimar could summon wings from their back and use them to fly.
Radiant Consumption Aasimar could emit a powerful energy that burned those around them.
Necrotic Shroud Aasimar could frighten others by conjuring a terrifying appearance.
Culture
Aasimar had no unified culture. Most were part of the culture that their parents or caretakers came from.
Many Aasimar also had celestials in contact with them, known as
celestial guides. Some celestial guides were the parent or ancestor of the Aasimar, though this was not a definite case for all Aasimar. Celestial guides would incentivise Aasimar to do good throughout the world. Though it was often believed that lack of a celestial guide meant that the Aasimar had done evil, causing their celestial guide to abandon them, this was not the case; just as many Aasimar never had a celestial guide as ones that did have them.
History
The first records of Aasimar appeared all the way back to the
Age of Arrival. While they never had a unified culture, some famous legendary and historical figures - such as
Dyveri MacCor and
Yang Tai - were believed to be Aasimar.
