2020/03/29: Mask Replacement Part 1 Report
General Summary
Pele, Sith, Terana, Humphery, Knight
The mages began their preparations. A ritual circle was drawn, forming a shield to contain the Void when the mask came off, and other magical countermeasures were readied. Knight rested in the center of the circle, his equipment handed to the mages for safekeeping (and to reduce the danger if a battle with Knight himself was required). And then, with a burst of willpower, Knight shattered his mask.
The turbulent Void flooded out, smashing against the magical barriers and filling the prepared space in moments. The walls, for the moment, held. The remaining adventurers readied themselves and stepped into the wall of darkness.
Inside Knight's unleashed soul they found themselves standing on a platform in a darkened dream realm. Three notable points of interest were visible in the distance. Above and away, they saw a point of fierce light, the dream goddess Radiance once more attempting to escape her bonds. Behind them, they saw a white palace of strange and intricate design, which Knight recognized as the home of the Pale King, his father. And below, they saw a zone of deeper darkness, likely the representation of the Void that was beginning to grow beyond the containment Knight's old mask provided.
Knight had at first found himself as an invisible shade, simply a conscious and mobile piece of the dream. With the help of his friends, he managed to fit himself into the new mask they'd brought inside with them, but he found himself tiny, back to the size he'd been when he'd first fought the Radiance so long ago. In hopes of gathering him some equipment, or just some greater size and power, the party chose to first descend and face the Void.
Their first obstacle was an army of 48 mini-Knights that were both dedicated swordsmen and accomplished Void mages. The party managed to use area denial and teamwork to slowly whittle them down and hold them off while Sith took several turns to prepare a cascade of magical attacks that, when launched, swept the chamber and destroyed all enemies that remained. The party healed and moved on.
In a throne room made from the stuff of the Void, they faced an ogre-sized version of Knight that the DM dubbed Darkest Knight, a being that opened the fight by teleporting into the middle of the group from across the room, dealing undodgeable blast damage, hitting everyone with his giant sword, and then teleporting back to safety at the far side of the room.
Long story very short, some people almost died, but through exceptional skill and teamwork (and the array of ridiculous abilities available to such high-level adventurers), the team managed to bring the Darkest Knight down. The explosion of liquid Void that resulted was absorbed by Knight, who found it building him back to his normal size plus a few inches.
The darkened region and throne room then began to collapse, and the team escaped back to the central platform on which they'd arrived in the dream. They had the allies maintaining the barrier outside the dream throw Knight's equipment in, and then Knight geared up and the group prepared for the second target.
