Davidson Hellbright

"Dave" is a grumpy antipaladin who serves Blythe Derguil as a bodyguard. He is especially notable as the holder of the sword 'Nightmare', a manifestation of primordial fear so potent that nearly anything (living, undead, constructs, you name it) will try to run from him in blind terror. (Dave hates this as it means he normally has to run down opponents.)
Nightmare is itself one of the Demons of Renedge, that made the mistake of angering Ion Rathe Derguil, who dimensionally warped the massive invulnerable humanoid demonlord into a sword. Ion Rathe has subsequently threatened to make him into a spoon to stir his tea if he continues to anger him or his family (aka Blythe).

Personal history

Dave grew up in a family in service to the forces of evil, and he became an antipaladin in line with this family tradition. At some point, he died, and some time later he was brought back as a wraith in service to Blythe. It is notable that the spell Blythe cast should not have resulted in his summoning; it is believed that Catalus intervened to raise Dave and push him her way.
As time went on, Blythe updated Dave to improved forms of wraith, and eventually she chose to have him returned to life. He has served her loyally ever since. He has spent much of his time as a guard for Blythe's home and for Blythe herself, occasionally being sent out to act as a troubleshooter.
As of September of 23 ARL, Blythe is in a court case with Hell for possession of Dave's soul.

Bodguard to Blythe. Formerly a living antipaladin, he was killed, then raised as a wraith in Blythe's service. He has been improved over time and then brought back to life, and he's now the wielder of the sword of Nightmares.
