Scroll of Shelter
The Scroll of Shelter is a unique magical scroll that serves as a doorway into an extradimensional place of (dubious) safety.
Originally, this place of safety was relatively small and simple. It resembled a network of hallways and rooms from a high-class hotel, with invisible servants and the ability to provide good food and places to rest. Despite its friendly appearance, however, the place was always vaguely disconcerting; in truth it was the home of a fear elemental, feeding off the fear of those who entered and the terror and death of any unwanted invaders. Still, the owner of the scroll and her allies could rest assured that they could stay there safely, as long as they didn't wander off too far.
After Scotty McScottishFace was given an opportunity to work on the artifact from the inside in May of 23 ARL, this pocket dimension expanded dramatically. The internal dimension is now a complicated, dimensionally twisted landscape with castles, a giant black hole in the sky, and floating islands with yet more castles. There are spooky forests around the edges, and black and white lights streaming towards the void hole. Skeletons roam the grounds. For those who can perceive them, the air is now full of souls.
Further investigation revealed that the Scroll of Shelter is linked to the leylines of Renedge and is powered by an immense number of souls. It is "an active solcite reader", but tuned for fear only.
Despite the changes, the scroll remains a source of safe shelter for those who can reach a castle before the skeletons catch them. And if the fear elemental likes you, perhaps the skeletons will chase just slowly enough for you to stay out of reach...
