Blue Hanging Baskets of Shriscus

The Shriscus is an incredibly common flower found in Kellumlund. The flower itself has few uses outside of some herbal remedies, however the leaves can be ground up and made into a blue paint or paste. The Kellium warriors have used these leaves to paint themselves blue prior to battle since their settlement in that region sometime in the early second age. The flower has come to symbolize strength and courage, and were once worn in the dreadlocks and facial hair of both all Kellium genders.

Significance

Most recently, the flower has been used to signify sympathy and for the Kellium rebellion engaged in terroristic and guerilla warfare against the Ornithian occupation. A home or business in Kellumlund will place a hanging pot or basket full of Shriscus flowers next to the door. Smaller vases and pots have also been used, and in various locations in and around the building that might show solidarity. The baskets demonstrate support that often indicates the occupants would be willing to provide covert assistance to the cause. The Ornithian army was quick to recognize the symbol early in the occupation, and was quick to use it to the empire's advantage. However the Ornithians did not fully realize the cultural and historical significance of the flower that ties it to the blue paint of the Kellium warrior. The guerilla warriors quickly changed the symbol to incorporate the color blue to distinguish between real sympathizers and traps. Thus, many bright blue baskets, vases, and glassware still proudly display the yellow Shriscus flowers.
