An introduction to Vectis Xi

"born" on a fishing vessel that discovered him.   First experience was of captain saying "well throw it back overboard if it's not going to fix the nets", to which Vectis responded "please show me the nets".   Spent about a year living and working on the fishing vessel, which was crewed by humans. Learned about crafting, repairing the vessel, nets, and other hardware.   When Vectis began showing an aptitude for magic (effecting repairs that he lacked proper tools to make) the captain introduced him to the artisan guilds of the Republic of Detroit. Vectis eventually struck up an arrangement with a furniture maker, being employed to craft simple items and make repairs to existing furniture while not interacting with the shop customers.   After Vectis' talents were evaluated he received rudimentary training as an Artificer (level 1) and his basic crafting skills were encouraged. He then returned to employment with the furniture shop, with increased responsibilities and better pay.   Vectis soon found himself with excess time on his hands, as he didn't require the "sleep" that the humanoids around him appeared to both enjoy and loath. After reviewing his opportunities and option he negotiated additional employment with a herbalist down the road from the furniture shop. Spending evenings prepping materials and making simple potions and poultices, away from the questioning glances of the shop patrons.   Is currently pursuing an opportunity to become an official citizen of the Republic of Detroit.   As opportunities allow Vectis studies any form of history, religion, as well as humanoid nature and interactions.   Did encounter a small collection of Warforged within Republic of Detroit, existing as a community of sorts within the ???. Most had extensive damage, and none were fully intact. Vectis was acknowledged as kin, but wasn't welcomed into their ranks. His "youth", inexperience, and alien skillset set him apart, causing a level of distrust and resentment from the battle worn veterans.   With investigation came insight, the Warforged didn't age and were left without a means of clouding the memories of their past, both the friends and "family" they've lost as well as the attrocities they've been forced to take. Their "nonliving" form and history of violence have soured most perceptions of the Warforged, making them generally unwelcome and unemployable outside of a martial society. In most instances individual or small groups Warforged are able to exist only due to the minimal requirements of their race.   Vectis wishes to improve the lot of his brethren, from their physical condition, to their "living" conditions, opportunities for positive contribution to society, and treatment from other races and classes. Realizing this is a long term quest, he has determined his initial task is to be an ambassador to the rest of humanity and to improve his position within the Republic of Detroit.
