Storm Herald

On the rain-battered isle of Greystorm, the ritualistic storm elves see lightning as a gift, but they are not immune to its effects. Over the centuries of being struck, however, they have developed a resistance. This resistance is very useful for a people that are constantly being electrocuted, but in one very particular circumstance, this could be seen as a bad thing.   For the elves of Greystorm, there must always be a Storm Herald. A person who could take a bolt of lightning to the face and laugh. Someone that could walk headstrong into a hurricane and come back with their hair looking even better than before they went in. Whether superstition or magic, whoever held this title had a gift. One that would give immunity to the powers of electricity. This gift would allow one to stand upright against a raging tsunami and their clothes would remain dry.   How is one made a Herald? Five young elves, each chosen one from the major tribes, are brought to the summit of the tallest mountain in the world. This is a harrowing climb that spans weeks thanks to the inclement weather and hazardous terrain. Once the destination is reached, each is chained to a lightning rod made of pure ---, a metal that can conduct electricity like no other. Heaven's wrath will then begin to unload upon these poor souls. A grey elf's resistance to lightning is now their greatest weakness, preventing them from a quick, merciful death. For hours this group of five is subjected to constant electrocution, their muscles spasming and their skin scarring. Eventually the first one will fall. Their life force only empowers the ritual, the bolts of energy now becoming even more energized.
