Elery Slatedraft loses his arm to a sawmill and becomes unable to fulfill his duties. His home in Millpoint is forfeit, forcing his family to move back to Bandwar. Elery takes up drinking as his new favored hobby and picks up odd jobs around the city. He grows distant from his wife and young children.
