Rotskjoldland
Rotskjoldland is a colony of the Kalmasan Samraj consisting mainly of the eastern peninsula of the same name. Formerly an independent Jolnir kingdom, Rotskjoldland is named for the clan name of the great hofðar, Magni af Rotskjold "Magni Redshield". Magni and his clan conquered or drove out all the clans of the peninsula and Magni declared himself koenag of all those lands over two hundred years ago.
It was the first modern kingdom in Heimval and was ruled as a feudal monarchy before falling to the Kalmasan Samraj during the Northern Wars. The Northern Wars were begun at the apex of the Samraj's strength and though the navies and armies of Rotskjoldland were formidable, they were not as well organized and disciplined as that of the Samraj and the lands of the country's theotans were taken over one by one starting from the south.
Now Rotskjoldland is a prosperous Kalmasan colony with a governor, local administrators and garrisons. Its Jolnir natives are mostly content under Kalmasan rule, though they have begun to resent the increasing number of foreigners spreading out of the cities into the countryside. As in all the Samraj's colonies, there are concerns of restless elements since the Samraj's loss during the War of Sovereignty.
