The Convergence Feast
Family and friends gather together in public celebration buildings, parks, gardens or the largest dining hall they have access to in order to celebrate the appearance of Idros in the sky above their planet.
On the day Idros can be seen with the naked eye, the event begins, people gathering to dance and drink as they celebrate their lives and those of their friends and family. Throughout the day, there is food available at all times in the form of a buffet. Come evening meal, the Feast begins in full swing as plates upon plates of foodstuff are brought out. Those attending a celebration will gather around the table, chatting and making merry.
The Feast lasts for as long as Idros can be seen without the use of technology, special dishes eaten each day.
History
Originally, the Feast of the Convergence was a way to celebrate the gods and give thanks and offerings to them, particularly to Idros. However, as the beliefs of the Onoan and Niatias people evolved and their knowledge of science increased, this celebration changed to include the belief that this convergence brought about a thinning of the walls between realms, allowing the dead to walk amongst the living for as long as Idros lingered in the sky above.
As the years went by, science grew in importance for those who lived on Niatias and Onoa, while belief in the spirits and deities waned. Though the majority of the beliefs behind the Feast mostly disappeared, the practice of the Convergence Feast continued on. Still, there are those on both continents who believe that the spirits of their deceased ancestors cross through the barrier to walk with them during the Convergence. Most of these beliefs are found on the island of Chenta, though there are many spiritual people left on the other islands of Niatias as well as Onoa.
Components and tools
Food is what makes this ritual. It is a large feast and celebration of life and love, rooted in the appearance of Idros in the sky of Laethius.
The main foodstuff likely to be present at all Feast celebrations are fruits native to Onoa and Niatias, as well as drinks made from those fruits and the nectar of select plants.
A favoured dish of the Feast is referred to as Idros Oplamia, the soul of Idros, an iconic dish of the Neh'ari people made from a kind of fruit and flower that only grows in one region of their island. Though it is available in other locations, the dish originates in one settlement on Neh'ari and it is said that the recipe cannot be repeated with the same flavour anywhere else.
Observance
The event only takes place every 7 Earth years, when the two habitable moons of Corpheus, Laethius and Idros, near each other on their slingshot orbit.
