Magic, like most things in Reverie, was born from the
Dreamscape. All forms of magic are tied to dreams in some form. While some people are born with certain kinds of magical abilities, most kinds of magic can be learned or taught.
Main Schools of Magic
Illusion
Illusory magic is the ability to cast spells that trick the senses, whether they be sound, sight or smell.
Most types of illusions are intangible, but some very powerful illusions that fall into a grey area between illusion and dreamcasting magic, can influence a person's sense of touch. These types of illusions are very rare, and can only be performed by the strongest illusionists.
Clairvoyance
Clairvoyance is the ability to see past illusions and have visions of the future. It is a rare ability that people are born with.
Dreamcasting
Dreamcasting is one of the most common types of magic, and it can be performed by anyone. It is the ability to project dreams or elements of dreams and bring them to real life.
While anyone can dreamcast, the limits of they are able to project vary from person to person. Some people are only able to bring forth a few objects for a limited amount of time, while others can bring forth entire landscapes from their dreams. It is also important to note that the greater the scope of a projection, the harder it is to maintain it for long periods of time.
When it comes to projecting "sentient" beings such as humans from the caster's dreams, the process becomes a bit more complicated. These projections are not truly sentient, and all of their words come from caster's mind, and it's often from the caster's subconsious mind.
Charms
Dreamcasters can also put their magic into a physical object, that object then becomes a charm. These charms, contain a part of a person's magic and by extension a part of dreams and psyche. What these charms do is based on the dreams and emotions of the dreamcaster when they created the charm.
It is also possible to unintentionally create a charm, even for those who do not practice dreamcasting. When a person has strong desires and emotions at the time of their death, those feelings can latch on to an object with significant sentimental value. These types of charms are particularly powerful, however they are incredibly dangerous to use.
