The Ebony Isles

In the decade and a half that Vol Atir spent consolidating the United Palushrok Empire the mines of The Ebony Isles were perhaps the most valuable boon in his arsenal, providing his army with the precious metal known as Orichalcum This deep green, almost black metal was blended into ever elite warriors weapon in The Wolf's army, and with the magic nullifying powers that it innately posses, it permitted Vol Atir to lead his warriors across the land with little concern of arcane backlash.   Today these mines have spread throughout the Ebony Isles, and while Orichalcum is in scarce supply, the Ebony Dwarves get by on the other precious metals and minerals that are still nestled deep under these lands. The dwarves who inhabit these lands have done so for generations now, with little hope for any alternatives to the mining lives that they were raised in. The luckiest of them earn posts at Fort Blackstone, where the most dangerous thing they face is the ridicule of their siblings for fear of the mines and the creatures and dangers that dwell beneath. The least lucky of them find their abrupt ends in the mines, be it at the hands of the horrors that call these lands their home, crumbling cave-ins, or lava flooding the deepest tunnels. The Ebon believe that in the toil and dirt they exemplify true dwarves, hardy, perceptive, living a life of challenge and suffering and proving that only they could ultimately make it through.
