The first thing you see are eyes peering out of the murky water. Then, a rumbling hiss as the creature rises out of the water and stares down at you from their full height. These are the krodyl - ancient predators that can strike fear into the hearts of the small folk. Physically powerful, remarkably athletic, and tough to boot, krodyl make capable and dependable allies for any group of adventurers.
Hulking Predators
Matched in size by only the largest of warm-blooded species, the massive krodyl are built to kill and devour. With tough, leathery hides, rows of razor-sharp teeth, and powerful tails that can knock a
Minotaur around, krodyl make formidable soldiers, mercenaries, and warriors. They often find themselves moving quickly up the ranks of military organizations, or taking the leadership of a bandit group by force.
Fearsome Presence
Known for keeping their emotions, if they feel any at all, tightly under wraps, krodyl often come across as intimidating and uncaring. A bard may pour their heart into a song or story that moves the rest of the party to tears and applause, but an unblinking stare and throaty rumble might be the only acknowledgement you get from the krodyl in the group. There's a general sense among the smaller species of the World that the only thing keeping them alive and uneaten by nearby krodyl is the
Law of Speech and threat of punishment.
These are stereotypes based on fear, of course, and plenty of warm-bloods make meaningful connections and friendships with krodyl - just put in the time to crack through their tough skin and you'll find the fascinating folk hidden beneath. Krodyl are stalwart and dependable, and consider their kin and close friends more important than any other allegiance. Stories abound from the last civil war in Carassia of krodyl mercenaries and soldiers who laid down their weapons when they saw their old comrades on the side of the enemy faction.
