Magicitebulb

Powered by a chemical reaction accidentally discovered in a Magicite mining facility, magcitebulbs are curious devices that can provide exceptional amounts of light in dark places.   When magicite crystals come into contact with a specific alloy combination, they begin to glow, illuminating the area around them. The strength of the glow depends both on the purity of the magicite itself and the purity of the metallic alloy. Research and refinements of this technology over the past hundred years have optimized the production of the alloy and the methods of contact between these two materials. The color of the light produced is directly reflective of the coloration of the crystal - red crystals produce red light, blue crystals produce blue light, and so forth.   Bulbs are most commonly activated by turning a dial or knob to rotate a piece of alloy into contact with a crystal held in a glass bulb. Alternate designs using switches or pull-strings exist as well, but these are less frequently manufactured. Typically, magicitebulbs find use in streetlamps in major cities, allowing people to continue both work and leisure into the night. These streelamps are usually constructed in groups, where a lamplighter can turn one dial to initiate the alloy contact for a number of lamps at once.   Individual persons may purchase magicitebulbs and the devices required to light them for their own homes, though this is prohibitively expensive for most. Smaller, portable designs exist as well, both as portable lanterns and headlamps; most commonly bought and sold in the extensive cave networks of Oroi.
