Beings of Legend

Dragons in Ripple

Dragons are more common then one might think in the Shattered Sea. Although most dragons are enigmatic and ephemeral in nature, many of them choose to live nearby to humanoid civilizations.   The type of dragon does not usually relate to their alignment. A brass dragon can be evil, just as a black dragon can be good. The only true way to determine a dragon's alignment and intentions are to speak to it.   Dragons are widespread throughout the Shattered Sea but the types of these dragons vary by location. In the Holy Rigsteadic Empire as well as Principia, one is more likely to find a metallic dragon as opposed to the other types. In the Summerset Collective, gem dragons are commonplace, and in the Umber Reaches chromatic dragons roam the seafloor mountain ranges.

Important Dragons

Most dragons tend to have minimal influence on the world as a whole, and knowledge or stories of them are usually isolated to the areas in which they reside. However, there are a few dragons who have their stories spread throughout the Shattered Sea, and whom almost everyone would have heard of at some point.

Apocrypha

The most well know and revered dragon is rumored to reside near Hallow. Apocrypha is an ancient dragon turtle who has long resided near the First City on the edges of the Trench. When the Shattered Prince first created the Spheres, it is said that Apocrypha worked alongside the Prince to shape the land around Hallow to fit the needs of Humanoids. After the land was shaped Apocrypha sank to the ocean floor to sleep, and over the years has been covered with the debris of the ocean. The location of Apocrypha's resting place is unknown to all but the highest echelon of Hallow. Every few centuries the great Dragon Turtle rises from its seafloor rest to commune with the Godsworn in Hallow. It is said that times of great strife and conflict in the Shattered Sea wake Apocrypha to act as a peacekeeper and end the conflict. The last time Apocrypha emerged from their seafloor slumber was at the end of the Welding Wars, when the bathysphere of Promisehad its chain destroyed.

Impacta

Imperial Legatus of the Fullsteel Legion, the Gold Dragon Impacta resides in the Sparkhold in Rigstead's capital of Grandfall. Her name is known throughout Rigstead and beyond as a terrifying military tactician with a brute force to match her mind. Know as the Spear of the Throne, Impacta was one of the most influential figures during the Welding Wars. When the Hammerstone Province (now known as Principia) rebelled against the throne, Impacta was the largest and most vocal supporter of King Velstadt V. Rigstead's accomplishments in the war are largely attributed to Impacta and her efforts, and without her the territory claimed by Principia would undoubtedly be much larger. During the war Impacta headed the military group that has now grown into the Fullsteel Legion and has remained as its leader ever since. An accomplished tactician and fighter, few dragons can claim to match Impacta's raw physical strength, or her ferocity in combat.

Iapetus

Twin brother to Impacta, the silver dragon Iapetus resides in the magical institute of Tempesthome as both its founder and Headmaster. Known as Tempestflash throughout the Shattered Sea, Iapetus is considered one of the greatest wizards ever to have lived in the shattered sea, second only to the long-lost first Godsworn, Chi-Tong Ra. As different from his sister as oil and water, Iapetus and Impacta supported opposing sides during the Welding Wars. Iapetus chose to support the rebellion's leader, James Volf and his claim to the throne. If their political views were different, so too are the fighting styles of Impact and Iapetus. Iapetus specializes in magic, something that his sister lacks, and in exchange he is the physically weaker of the two. His mind is just as, if not keener, than his sister and Iapetus is the sole reason that Principia came into being. Without his help in the Welding Wars the Hammerstone Rebellion would have undoubtedly failed.
