The Savage Ridge

None dear set foot upon the Ridge without the Will of the Living Cosmos by one's side. The dark conifer forest that covers most of the ridge is the prevailing veil that gives the mountain range its sinister nature. Arkatos citizens whisper tales of the beasts which live within the forest, monsters born from human fear and ego.   The story goes that, when the Third of the Lesser Cosmos noticed what its younger sibling was doing, the Third fell in love with the sentient creatures. It decided to create some of its own. This single action is what caused the Dark Era to swallow the planet, as the two gods challenged each other over the title of sovereign.   The Savage Ridge is the birthplace of Arkatos' nightmares, an ever looming threat that, at any moment, the Third of the Lesser Cosmos could rise up and again attempt to overrule the Jaguar Emperor.

Geography

The Savage Ridge rises from the Western Ocean and curves south on its kilometers-long trail. Conifer forests make up the bulk of the forests atop the mountain, the caps generally dotted white with snow. The Azure Heart river, which runs to the Western Ocean, cuts a path through the southern tail end of the Savage Ridge, from a lake nested among the high peaks.   For reasons unknown, a strange ribbon of blue-green light often extends from the highest peaks of the Savage Ridge and dominates much of the sky over the mountains. Early in the morning, or late at night, there are few greater sights then watching the Savage Lands and the Savage Light dance in the starry sky.

Fauna & Flora

Many different animals call the forest their home, despite humanities fear of the mountain. Bears, mountain lions, wolves, and tigers all call the mountain ridge home, as do hundreds of species of bird, lizard, and millions of insects. Though not a single human would dare to explore the depths of the forest, more mystic species do call the ridge their home -- chief among them is a being known only as the Guardian of the Pass. Dragons roost deep within the mountains themselves, in the hundreds of winding caves and caverns, but none like the Guardian.   Cut through the center of the mountain, most likely by an ancient river which has long since dried up, is a large, clear path through the Savage Ridge, it constitutes the safest passage through the Ridge so long as the Guardian can be persuaded to allow passage. It is because of this that the Savage Ridge is rumored, at least by those who subscribe to the Six Suns, to be the entrance to the Third of the Lesser Cosmos' realm.

Natural Resources

the Savage Ridge offers copious amounts of wood, and humanity has taken in several locations where the forest has been cleared to mine minerals from the mountain. Animal pelts can be procured, however very few trappers have the courage to venture into the forests of the Savage Ridge alone.
