Age of Humans

Humanoid races thrive as the dominant races of Eberron, and Dragonmarks emerge among them. Kingdoms rise and fall, most prominently the Kingdom of Galifar in Khorvaire, which crumbled into a hundred year civil war known as the "Last War". Peace has been found in Khorvaire, but tension still run high, and the future is not yet set in stone.

About 2300 years prior to the events of the campaign, the first Dragonmarks emerge on the "lesser races" of Eberron, with the Mark of Hospitality appearing among halflings of the Talenta Plains, and the Mark of Shadow and the Mark of Death appearing among the elves of Aerenal. The Dragons watched in awe and horror as the Draconic Prophecy began to unfold among the lower races. Humans from the contenent of Sarlona begin land in the pre-Galifar Lhazaar Principalities, and have little or no contact with the fractious goblin states. After this, more Dragonmarks begin to appear among the races of Eberron: the Mark of Healing appears among halflings of the Talenta Plains, the Mark of Scribing appears among the gnomes of Zilargo, and the Mark of Sentinel appears among humans of pre-Galifar Karrnath.   After a Dragon-Elf hybrid is born with the Mark of Death, the elves & dragons united to destroy House Vol (which carries the Mark of Death), ending millennia of intermittent warfare between the two species   .After this event, the common races begin to carve up Khorvare into the Five Nations, Aundair, Breland, Cyre, Karrnath, and Thrane. After, the Mark of Making appears among humans of pre-Galifar Cyre, and the Mark of Warding appears among the dwarves of the Mror Holds.   Karrn the Conqueror establishes the nation of Karrnath, defeating the remaining goblinoid settlements, and unsuccessfully attempts to conquer the other four human nations. During this time, the Mark of Storm appears among half-elves of pre-Galifar Thrane. Karranthi soilders discover the Dragonmarked houses of Ghallanda, Jorasco, and Lyrandar in the Talenta Plains during this conquest.   After this event, the Mark of Passage appears among humans of pre-Galifar Aundair, and the Mark of Handling appears among humans in the Eldeen Reaches. Though the Quori were cut off from Eberron during the Age of Giants, ways to allow them to bind with the souls of humans causes the kalashtar to appear in Adar fleeing Dal Quor. The Mark of Detection then appears among half-elves of pre-Galifar Breland.   Soon after, the dragonmarked houses launch the War of the Mark to end the threat of aberrant and mixed marks, persecuting those with Aberrant Marks. The War of the Mark comes to an end when Lord Tarkanan, the Lady of the Plague, and his other lieutenants - in a last great act of defiance - cause the destruction of the city of Sharn and the believed extinction of the aberrant mark.   Galifar I is born in Khorvare, assuming the throne of Karrnath. After The Border Wars begin, Galifar I and his five scions - Cyre, Karrn, Thrane, Aundair, and Brey - take control of the Five Nations and establish the Kingdom of Galifar. It is at this time that the Mark of Finding appears among humans and half-orcs of the Shadow Marches. The Five Nations of Galifar adopt the names of King Galifar's children as their own, and the city of Sharn is once again rebuilt on top of the old cities' ruins. Galifar, now eighty-five winters old, steps down and passes rulership of the kingdom to his oldest remaining scion, Cyre.   Though the demons were bound in the Demon Lands, one of the demon lords escaped their bonds to wreak havok over the rest of Khorvare. A paladin sacrificed their life to join the Coutal in sealing the demons once more, creating the first of the Church of the Silver Flame.   Galifar and the houses continue to expand over the next several hundred years, forming the first speaking stones, discovring and inducting many of the Dragonmarked families into Galifar, and expanding their control. \During this time, the Silver Purge occurs, an inquisition by the Church of the Silver Flame to wipe out lycanthropy. In the 50 year inquisition, the shifters are nearly wiped out. The remaining shifters went into hiding, with many finding their way to the Eldeen Reaches.   894 years after the kingdom of Galifar is established, King Jarot, the last ruler of Galifar dies. Thalin, Kaius, and Wroann reject the succession of Mishann. Wrogar backs his sister's claim, and the Last War begins.   Over the next hundred years, the Last War reshapes Khorvare, with The Mror Holds declaring it's independence, the Church of the Silver Flame assuming control of Thrane, the southern annex of Cyre becoming the Elf Nation of Valenar, the Eldeen Reaches declaring itself an independent nation under the protection of the Wardens of the Wood and the guidance of the Great Druid Oalia, Zilargo - always an independed protectorate of Breland - formally aligns with Breland, House Cannith perfects the modern-era warforged, living constructs designed to fight the Last War, a hobgoblin rebellion against the nation of Cyre & Breland births the nation of Darguun.   At teh end of the war, a mysterious mist spreads through Cyre, killing everything in it's path, and covering the land in a magical mist that changed, morphed, and locked the land in time in an event called "The Mourning", creating the Mournlands where Cyre once stood. The remaining refugees that escaped the Mourning were taken into Breland. No one knows exactly what caused the Mourning, and it's a highly debated topic among the remaining kingdoms.   After the Mourning, The Treaty of Thronehold officially ends the Last War. The treaty officially recognizes the nations of Aundair, Breland, Thrane, Karrnath, the Talenta Plains, Zilargo, Q'barra, the Lhazaar Principalities, the Mror Holds, the Eldeen Reaches, Darguun, and Valenar. The treaty further commands House Cannith to destroy the creation forges (the devices used to create warforged). Remaining warforged are granted the rights of sentient beings.   After the end of the Last War, tensions still run high between the kingdoms, old rivalries and conflicts still define the poltical landscape, and many believe that it is inevitable for war to once again.
