Immanent

The title of Immanent is given to the leader of the Astarum, a council of powerful celestial fey in the Shardscape realm of Rhaddin's Rest. As the Astarian vitian of the council are effectively immortal, the station of Immanent is considered a lifetime appointment. This is rarely ever truly the case, however, as an Immanent is customarily expected to step down and appoint a successor after a few centuries of rule. Particularly favorable Immanents may last longer while unfavorable Immanents may be pressured to step down sooner rather than later.
An Immanent has the power to unilaterally determine the Astarum's policies and agenda during the course of their tenure. Although they cannot take drastic actions without the consent of the full council, they and their faction have free reign to pursue their own ends while they are in power. The only exception is when it comes to war. Although the Immanent has great latitude to determine the objectives and operational parameters of any military action carried out at the direct behest of the Astarum, such actions cannot be undertaken without taking a vote to the floor. To smooth this process, an Immanent is expected to appoint a warmaster and a war council to keep the greater council abreast of developments during strategy meetings.
Immanents of the past are typically commemorated only with their portrait in the Hall of Immanence, but one among them is given an honor beyond this. The now-reclusive and seldom seen founder of the Astarum is the only one granted the derivative title of High Immanent in honor of his role in building the foundations of the Astarum and his tenure as patriarch of the Astarians before they could cement their influence in Rhaddin's Rest.
