Merano‘a Character in Rivendom | World Anvil

Merano‘a

Merano'a is a minor Begotten storm god and a native of Shatterspear. Known as the Blind Magician during the reign of Matanea, God-Emperor of Manuara, his was a visage that once struck fear into the people of Shatterspear. As the Blind Magician and the most powerful of Matanea's "Chronomancers," he left the imperial palace rarely. Whenever he did, it was to viciously and mercilessly put down rebellions and uprisings, or to make gruesome examples of dissidents.   Merano'a never enjoyed the grisly work he was made to do but he rendered himself dispassionate toward the God-Emperor's commands as a means of coping with the trauma. Before the series of events that led to the creation of Manuara and Matanea taking up the mantle of God-Emperor, Merano'a was a kind-hearted individual. He was not blind from birth but rather was blinded during the bloody war that established Manuara when, in a twisted act of mercy, Matanea plucked the eyes from his skull to spare him the torture of seeing the atrocities he committed.   Desperate, earnest love for Matanea kept him at the God-Emperor's side despite the revolting acts of merciless slaughter he was told to commit. But he did them anyway, because he loved Matanea. Even when an equally deep and abiding hatred burgeoned in his heart for the God-Emperor, he could not leave him because he still believed that somewhere underneath was the man he'd once grown to love.   As he was helpless to do anything against the God-Emperor, Merano'a eventually came to hate the people of Shatterspear just as Matanea did. He hated them for being so powerless. He hated them for inviting this calamity upon themselves and essentially forcing him to sully his hands as a result. This did not change until he learned of El'Thea and the Wardens of the Wayward, at which point he began to regain his former self.
