Sword of Dissonant Whispers

An ornate sword crafted with intricate, meticulous swirls and spirals along its silver haft, with a black onyx pommel that seems to thrum with energy. The three-and-a-half foot blade is tremulous, quivering even when held still, the sound of its motion through the air evoking the whispers of a thousand damned souls.

Weapon Versatile ( 1d10 ) Rare (this item requires attunement)

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. When you hit a creature with it, that creature takes an extra 1d10 necrotic damage and must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw, becoming frightened of you for 1 minute on a failed save. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Cursed. This weapon is cursed, a fact that is revealed only when an identify spell is cast on the weapon or you attune to it. Attuning to the weapon curses you until you are targeted by the remove curse spell or similar magic, and removing the weapon fails to end the curse. While cursed, you become extremely mistrustful of all but your closest companions, and doubt the motives of everyone beyond them. In addition, every time you must make a Wisdom saving throw, you take 1d6 psychic damage from the effort of pushing through the whispers. If you have madness, the curse has no effect on you.

A special ritual involving the remove curse spell, which consumes 50gp of special components over 8 hours of work, can remove the curse permanently from the item if performed daily over the course of a week.
