Sanctuary
Sanctuary was a small residential township in southern Riza, to the west of the southernmost peak of the Brightland Rise. In mid 2840 the entire township was burned to the ground, no survivors ever emerged.
History
Pre-Ruin
Before it's destruction, Sanctuary was a perfectly average town with nothing special about it whatsoever. It was very small, only being home to residential housing and a small few non-residential buildings such as a post office, a DMV, and a single church. The town was so small, in fact, that there wasn't even a police station, fire house, or hospital. For such needs Sanctuary would rely on the neighboring town, Verbose. There was no city hall building, city hall meetings were typically held in the homes of the current mayor.Arson Investigation
In 2840, the entirety of Sanctuary was razed to the ground. Due to there being no survivors to call the Verbose police or fire departments, the ashes remained untouched for weeks before being discovered. The VPD initially went to investigate before requesting the assistance of ARK investigative teams, which was granted by the former Seat of War, Jatau Ahmad. The state of the remains suggested that the fire happened on July 2, 2840. Forensic evidence suggested that it was intentional. No significant ambient fire magic remained at the site, implying that the fire was started by traditional means and not through use of ones aspect. Most bodies were found in the remains of bedrooms leading investigators to believe the fire was intentionally started at night in order to catch the victims unaware. Some of the bodies were found in other locations around the houses. After tedious investigation and interrogation of all possible suspects (of which there are very few - most people that would have been considered suspects died in the fire), investigators have declared the Sactuary arson case a cold case. After becoming the new Officer of War, Sibyl P. Wright withdrew the investigative ARK units assigned to the case believing them to be more useful elsewhere.Tourism
Although previously there was no tourism in Sanctuary due to it being an incredibly small town with nothing interesting to see or do, after it's mysterious destruction it's become a niche destination for fans of mystery and true crime. The area is taped off and people who are not involved with the investigation aren't allowed to enter.
