Vedomma, the Goddess of Night

Vedomma, the ominous daughter of Kova, is a deity of dark powers, ruling over domains of Death, Grave, Tyranny, and Wrath. Her realm symbolizes the inevitable end, the resting place of the departed, the oppressive rule of power, and the unyielding anger that threatens to consume all.
"My adherents understand the inevitable cycle of power and decay. They see the world as a chessboard, where every move is a play for dominance, and every loss is a step closer to ultimate power."
— Vedomma (The Genesis Codex)
Often represented as a figure cloaked in darkness, holding a scepter of power in one hand and a skull in the other, Vedomma is seen by her followers as the ruler of the underworld and a deity of unquestionable authority. She reigns supreme over death's kingdom, bestowing ruthless dominion to those who pledge loyalty, and unyielding wrath on those who dare to cross her path.   Her followers, known as the Night Enforcers, are composed of morticians, gravekeepers, tyrants, and those consumed by wrath. Morticians and gravekeepers dedicate their lives to honor the dead, following Vedomma's teachings in their solemn duty. Tyrants, drawing strength from her domain of Tyranny, pledge allegiance to Vedomma in their quest for power. Those who are consumed by wrath seek her guidance to channel their anger, hoping to use it as a tool of power rather than a destructive force.   Temples dedicated to Vedomma, known as the Halls of Night, are places of solemn silence and dark mysteries. Hidden away in the shadows of society, these temples are often found in crypts, graveyards, or secluded, haunted woods. The Halls of Night embody the spectral essence of Vedomma's domains, filled with the silent whispers of the dead, the oppressive atmosphere of tyranny, and the lingering aura of wrath.   Despite the ominous nature of Vedomma's domains, the Night Enforcers believe in the necessary balance of power and the inevitable cycle of life and death. They honor Vedomma in their Halls of Night, living their lives in service to their deity, accepting the dark as much as the light in the intricate weave of existence. Their devotion to Vedomma is unyielding, a testament to the unassailable power and authority of their formidable deity.

Holidays

The Festival of Ghosts is an ethereal time in Ro'Kroya, a day steeped in spiritual connection and remembrance. It occurs just ten days before the Wintertide, when the biting chill of the coming winter begins to make itself felt. This sacred festival is dedicated to Vedomma, the deity associated with the more complex and darker facets of existence, including death and the afterlife. Historians and scholars of Ro'Kroya believe that on this particular day, the Planes align, thinning the veil between the physical world and the realm of spirits. It's said that this alignment makes traversing the Planes easier, providing an opportunity for the living to connect with the souls of their dearly departed.   The Festival of Ghosts begins at dusk, signifying the end of one day and the beginning of a night filled with potent spiritual activity. People across Ro'Kroya gather at their homes and in communal spaces, each carrying treasured mementos of their loved ones who've passed on. These could be anything from a favorite book to a piece of clothing or even a much-loved tool - each item a physical tether to the memories of those they've lost.   The tribute to Vedomma is central to the festival. A great pyre is lit in her honor, casting long shadows and bathing the gathered crowd in a warm, inviting glow. The attendees throw small paper boats into the pyre, each boat bearing a message or prayer for their departed loved ones. As the boats burn, it is believed that the messages are carried through the Planes to reach the souls in the afterlife.   As the night deepens, the community shares stories of their lost loved ones, their voices mixing with the crackling fire and the quiet sounds of the night. The air is filled with a blend of grief, love, and a comforting sense of camaraderie. It's a time for reflection, for the sharing of wisdom passed down from older generations, and for the comforting acknowledgment that every life, no matter how brief, leaves a lasting impact.   The Festival of Ghosts culminates in a grand feast just before dawn, where each dish has been lovingly prepared in memory of a departed loved one. As the first light of day breaks, the people of Ro'Kroya express their gratitude to Vedomma, leaving offerings of food and wine at her temples and altars.   It's a day of mourning turned into a celebration of life and an acknowledgement of the cycle of existence. The Festival of Ghosts serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between life and death, and the unending dance of joy and sorrow that constitutes the human experience.
