Session 01

General Summary

Magma Force had just slain Nabthatoron, the Demon Lord of the Demonskar, and as the dust settled they looked down on the village of Redgorge that they had saved. The demon army encircling it was fragmenting and breaking up as the hold Nabthatoron had on them broke. The lesser demons began to rout and some of the greater demons fought amoung themselves for supremacy. The seige was over and Magma Force had won the day.   Calling Sharpbeak and his cousins our heroes flew down into the village square where they received a raptuous welcome. A great party was organized to celebrate the lifting of the seige, and the party were made honary Elders of the village. They would always be revered here. Morgan was told that the Tercival manor would be rebuilt and renovated by the townsfolk as a thank you and he made himself even more popular by donating a thousand gold pieces to the village beer fund as a thanks for their help.   The party met in private with the members of the Chisel and discussed their plans. They intended continuing to work for the good of their members and intended staying a semi-secret society. They told Magma Force that they would have any help they needed. Also, Harley discovered that Maavu had been totally pardoned for his part in the Cauldron Tax Riot of a fortnight earlier. He was planning on returning to the city to rebuild his business.   The next morning, sporting slight hangovers, Magma Force flew by eagle back to the city. They circled a few times over the city to let the populace marvel at their return and to increase their status and then landed near the Church. A patrol of half orc guards, accompanied by a cleric of Wee Jas, accosted them but Morgan intimidated the guards and made them back down. So the party entered the Church and reported to the Hiigh Priestess who was very pleased to see them back alive and having defeated Nabthatoron. She told them that Lord Vhalantru wanted to see Morgan as soon as possible and they all decided to head off to the Town Hall to see him. Reaching the Town Hall, Morgan was again miffed to find that the half orc guards did not know who he was on sight. They got in though and went to see Vhalantru who was sipping wine with Lord Taskerhill. Vhalantru congratulated Magma Force on their defeat of Nabthatoron and told Morgan that he was due to be invested as a Lord at a feast at the Cusp of Sunrise in a couple of days time. All the nobles of the city would be there and of course his friends were welcome too. Lord Taskerhill gave grudging acknowledgement of the party's work in Redgorge and then they left.   The next day Camero went off to see Vortimax Weer and talk to him about alchemy and any success he might have had in his research. He found out that Alurad Sorizan, the Slayer, was apparently once in a relationship with Embril Aloustini! Details were sketchy but he was fairly certain of the fact they were once lovers. What this means, he was unsure. Vortimax had tried to speak to Embril about this but she was still away on church business and the Cathedral was also shut for renovation, as the spire was being extended upwards. Vortimax had also looked further into Gotrek's curse but had got nowhere with that.   Over the next few days Camero worked diligently to enhance the magical items the party had found to the best of his increasing ability. Harley began to frequent Skie's Treasury in an effort to aquire a discount from the gnome shop keeper but she told him it would take some time to build up a relationship. He swore he would achieve it. Morgan and braken were told that the High Inquisitor, Bishop Shelebeth Regidin wanted to see them for a meeting in a few day's time. Camero caught up with Shensen and Harley spent some time with Terri. Harley also tried to catch up with his cousin Fenby but he was nowhere to be found.   Eventually the day came for Morgan to be invested as a Lord. Lord Vhalantru, as acting mayor, led the ceremony which was tinged with sadness about the death of Alek Tercival. Afterwards at the feast in his honour, Morgan was introduced to Lady Thifirane Rhiavadi, possibly the most elidgable woman in the city, who appeared to take a great shine to the newly appointed Lord. She flirted quite obviously with him. Vhalantru told morgan he would be required to attend his first council meeting in the morning at the Town Hall. Thifirane told him she would look forward to seeing him there.   The next day Harley went to speak to Artus and was told that the Last Laugh had cut off all ties with part time membersa like himself. He didn't know what it meant but was worried a lot about it. Harley then went to visit Fenby again and still found him absent so he broke into his house and was surprised to find him in. Fenby apologied but said he couldn't talk about the situation but that Harley must leave him alone. He seemed exceptionally sorry about the whole position. Harley carefully left, making sure no one spotted him leaving Fenby's house. What was going on? Harley was worried but unsure what it meant or what he could do about it.   Magma Force's amazing efforts defeating Nabthaoron, plus the death of Lord Alek and the appointment of Lord Morgan were announced around the city by town criers, although not many people saw the criers as with Martial Law still in full flow most kept off the streets. Morgan went to his first meeting at the Town Hall and this time was admitted by the guards without question. The meeting was attended by Lord Vhalantru, Lord Taskerhill, Lord Aslaxin, Lady Rhiavadi and Lord Tercival (Morgan). It was to discuss the lifting of Martial Law which Lord Taskerhill thought was too severe. Vhalantru, Aslaxin and Rhiavadi voted against him though, meaning Morgan's vote was meaningless but with a good speach he did manage to convince Vhalantru to relax the numbers of half orc guards on patrol. Lady Thifirane invited Morgan out to dinner that evening at the Cusp and the two got on very well, ending with Morgan staying at the Cusp that night.   Camero went off to do research into any beholders called Orbius and was able to find out that there was a legendary beholder of that name operating on the main land of Rodinia about 50 years ago. He had a habit of collecting statues of his victims. He disappeared from the Rodinian legends about 20 years ago, perhaps killed by a band of adventurers or the famous Rodinian Legions. Morgan and Braken were summoned to the Church of St. Cuthbert at dawn and were there interviewed by the High Inquisitor. He wanted to know everything they had been up to since they left Cauldron two weeks ago to search for Lord Alek Tercival. Morgan and Braken explained their actions and when Bishop Regidin pointed out that they had allowed a Paladin of St. Cuthbert to be killed in front of their eyes and then had failed a challenge which would have allowed them to bring a layer of the Abyss back to Celestia, he was clearly unimpressed. His comments to the two of them left them in no doubt that he was not impressed and he made reference to the fact that he was unimpressed with High Priestess Jenya as well. The High Inquisitor was not a popular man. Braken and Morgan left, tails between their legs, wondering what to do next.   The next few weeks passed quietly in the city. Tensions were still running high and Martial law was still in force. The numbers of half orc patrols did not seem all that diminished despite the Council's decision to reduce them. Then rumour hit the city that the Stormblades had suffered a terrible blow. On a mission deep under the city on behalf of the Cathedral of Wee Jas, they had been ambushed by a drow patrol and only just escaped. In fact Tood Vanderboren had in fact been killed in the assult. They had made it back to the city with Todd's body and he was now lying in state in the Cathedral, awaiting resurrection. Rumour had it the Stormblades were thinking of retiring.   Camero's birthday came around and the members of Magma Force arranged a big dinner at the Cusp of Sunrise. All five members of the adventuring band were to attend. In addition they had invited Shensen, Camero's lady friend, plus the Chancellor, Terri Stoneheart, as Harley's guest and a new beau, Lady Thifirane, invited by Morgan as they had begun to see a bit of each other in the last few weeks. At lunchtime the members of Magma Force were meeting for a quick bite to eat and a drink or two at the Tipped Tankard Tavern when Terri came in...
