Session 01
General Summary
The Heaven's Gate inn was a luxurious establishment on the northern banks of the river which
lead down to the city docks. It was the most expensive inn in the city of Endhome and our heroes
had been pointed there by the city guards on account of their wealth and extravagent attire. They
had arrived, checked in and were sat down enjoying a sumptuous dinner accompanied by fine
wines and thirst quenching beer.
Suddenly the door to the inn's dining area burst open and in muscled a cloaked figure. The figure
drew the cloak from his head revealing a hideous looking face, with notably evil smile of pointy
teeth. It looked around, spotted our heroes in the corner and grinned. Two hunched creatures
followed him into the inn.
Instantly the two hunched creatures lauched themselves at unsuspecting diners in the common
room, ripping the patrons' throats out with savage fury. The cloaked figure turned to Magma
Force, clearly intent on making them his victims.
Magma Force sprang into action like the well oiled machine they are. Within seconds the vampire
was laying in a pool of his own blood, our heroes hardly having been scratched. But during this
time more of the hunched vampire spawn had entered the inn. They had climbed in through the
chimney. They had smashed open windows. And they were killing patrons with reckless abandon.
Sora had checked to see if there were any more of the creatures outside and had spotted four more
who seemed to be guarding - waiting to stop any city watch from interfering perhaps. Morgan and
Gotrek rushed outside to deal with them, where upon they discovered another cloaked figure who
was watching in through the window. Morgan took on the four guarding spawns whilst Gotrek
rushed the lone vampire.
Inside the inn Harley, Sora and Camero were trying to save the patrons from the remaining
spawns, Camero starting a small fire in the process, and Braken rushed out to aid the fight against
the vampires out there.
At this stage more spawns entered the common room and at the top of the stairs a beautiful elven
maiden, becloaked in crimson silk, appeared and surveyed the carnage. She seemed pleased.
Camero engaged her in witty banter and used his spells to slow her down, giving the patrons time
to escape. Meanwhile the others outside had finished off the evil creatures out there and they
rushed back into the inn at Sora's call. The elven beau recognised Morgan and called out to him by
name. She tried to convince him to turn on his friends and to rule the city of Endhome with her.
He was eloquent in his dismissal.
As Gotrek rushed in to attack the elven threat he suddenly found his consciousness altered. Instead
of being in the middle of a plush inn, he was on the sides of an ice-capped mountain. Snowy fields
surrounded him and to one side he was aware of a snow-topped pine forest. Around him on the
mountain side were hundreds of dwarves of all different clans. And they were all fighting. They
were battling traditional dwarven enemies - orcs, gnolls, goblins and the like. Then suddenly
Gotrek was back in the Heaven's Gate inn, facing the elven beauty. She looked at him with a
knowing glance.
The elven beau of course turned out to be another vampire, and this one was perhaps a particularly
dangerous one, but she stood no chance against the combined might of Magma Force. Within
seconds they had broken her will and her body, though before they did she gave Morgan a
whispered message from Embril, telling him that chasing after her would put their very souls in
danger.
As the elven vampire died Gotrek got another vision. Again he was on the same mountain side but
this time he noted that the goblins and orcs that him and his clansmen were fighting were all
undead. He was unsure what this all meant.
The fight in the inn finally over the heroes quickly searched the vampires for clues but were
unable to find anything other than the crimsom cloak that the elf wore. It bore the symbol of a
black dragon embroidered on the back - a symbol which identified the elf as a member of the
Ebon Riders - an elite mercenary band.
Soon the authorities arrived, and they seemed pleased that the heroes were still here. There was no
blame but rather the dwarven captain, Bragger Bondhome, asked the party to come with him.
There was no time to explain, he said, and the party rushed across town with him to the barracks.
There they were left for an hour or so until they were summoned to Bragger's office.
In the office with the silver haired dwarf were a tall balding human who was introduced as
Governor Ranlan Pool, and a black robed man with long hair in a pony tail and big fluffy
sideburns. He was Stylus Kant - the headmaster of the city University.
Bragger explained that the attack on the inn was by vampires, obviously, and that they must have
been sent by the Pulanti famility. The Pulanti were a noble family who had lived in the city for
hundreds of years. The authorities had long known they were vampires but they were tolerated as
long as they kept a low profile. Now, attacking an inn in full of rich and important patrons was
going too far. They needed to be dealt with. Unfortunately the authorities were not sure they could
but they suspected that this group of heroes were just the people to do so.
Bragger explained where the Pulanti mansion was and said that the heroes had best go now if they
were going to go at all, as after this failed attack the Pulantis would probably leave the city -
tonight. They couldn't pay but the Pulantis were well known to be exceptionally rich and anything
the heroes found they could keep. Of course Magma Force agreed.
Bragger escorted the party to the edge of the Pulanti compound and watched as they effortlessly
broke in.
The Pulanti mansion was in ruins. Inside and out it looked like it had not been used in decades.
There was a deep layer of dust all over everything. The entire place was full of ancient, broken
and ruined items - tapestries, vases, statues and so on. All of them looked like they had been very
valuable at one time but now were mostly worthless. The whole place stank of age and decay.
In the pantry the party found a trap door which, though old, showed signs of maintainance.
Camero, letting his senses drift into the magical realm, was able to sense a magical lock on the
door - though a fairly weak one. Harley wasted no time in breaking into it. Mundane locks and
even weak magical ones were no obstical for the skilled rogue. The party descended some stone
steps into darkness.
Below they found a warren of tunnels, some hand dug, some mortared and dressed. These areas
were well used, unlike the mansion above. Soon they found another door, locked from this side
and with another similar magical protection over it. Opening it they discovered the sewers lay
beyond. This door was all but undetectable from the far side - a secret door by which the vampires
could enter the sewers. This was clearly how they entered the city.
Moving deeper into the warren of tunnels they soon came across a place where torches flickered.
Harley snuck forward and did a quick reconnaisance. The warren opened into a larger room,
partially lit with flickering wall torches. In here he spotted a half dozen or so of the vampire
spawns who had attacked the inn earlier that evening. They had clearly come to the right place.
Adopting their usual approach, Magma Force lined up in pairs and rushed down the corridor and
into the room, hoping to surprise the occupants...
