Session 02

General Summary

The Flood Festival wore on. The party continued to enter most of the athletic competitions and not do so well in them. They continued to take dancing and etiquette lessons and learn the ropes of the upcoming Demonskar Ball which was scheduled to take place a week after the end of the weeklong Flood Festival.   Eventually the Flood Festival drew to a close. On the last day there would be the usual Lowering of the Waters ceremony where the four churches of the city would get together and use magic wands to lower the waters of the lake in a ceremony designed to replicate when the city was saved a few decades ago when the rains were so hard that the lower parts of the city were flooded. Since then the waters of the lake had been magically lowered as the closing ceremony of the festival each year even though there was no real need as the rains had never been that hard since. Well, until this year.   This year, for the first time really since the floods which procipitated the originial Flood Festival, the rains had been lashing down. In fact the waters of the crater lake had risen alarmingly over the last week and it was with some relief that the citizens of the city saw this day arrive as this day was the day the four temples would lower the waters once again. Or so they believed.   Magma Force arrived early at the closing ceremony to find acting High Priestess Jenya in somewhat of a state of panic. Asking her what was the issue she explained that things were amiss. Apparently this year for the first year since the festival had began, the other three churches had refused to contribute to making the wands of lower water which would lower the crater lake levels to safety. The Cathedral of Wee Jas said its energies were being directed to "other projects". The Temple of Kord had spent all its time and resources this year organising the athletics competions and so was unable to help. And the poor Shrine of Pelor had the year before lost both its High Priests in an accident and so the lone priest there had neither the resources nor the expertise to help out with crafting of these wands. That left the Church of St. Cuthbert to save the day. To that end a few months ago High Priest Sarcam had left for Sasserine. He was going there to help consecrate a new temple there but also whilst there to acquire some wands of lower water so that the cermony could be completed. Jenya told the party that the high priest had contacted her last night and that he had safely reached the Lucky Monkey with eight wands in his possession yet he had not arrived her at the city yet and the ceremony was due to start any moment.   When the time came, Jenya got up and made her speach to the gathered crowd but told them there was a problem with the wands and that the ceremony to lower the flood would have to take place tomorrow. There was consternation in the crowd at this as the lakes waters were very high and the rains continued to lash down. Next thing the party know Jenya was searching frantically for a bit of paper. Harley quickly located one for her and she scribbled a note on the paper. It was another Sending spell from High Priest Sarcem. He was at the Lucky Monkey still which had been attacked by bandits. He was in trouble but had holed up in the basement. The party offered to set out for the Lucky Monkey at once. Jenya made her excuses to the gathered crowd and quickly organised them a horse each and a potion of healing and told them to hurry. She said she would send a city patrol out too but red tape would hold that up for a while. The party rode out of the gate in the pouring rains.   Suddenly, dropping out of the sky came five giant eagles. They surrounded the party and then amazingly the lead bird bowed to Morgan, introduced itself as Sharpbeak and said they had been sent by Jenya to help the party reach the Lucky Monkey quickly. Their payment: the horses the party were riding (to eat!). Morgan thanked Sharpbeak and agreed and the party mounted up on their amazing mounts and took off into the wet skies. They reached the Lucky Monkey in a little over an hour, rather than the eight it would have taken to ride on horse back.   The Lucky Monkey showed signs of battle and there were a bunch of bodies piled by the back door, on which 2 raptors were feeding. Sharpbeak and his friends put the party down by the front door and said they would return at dawn - they took off, presumably to go back and eat the horses they had left behind. The party snuck up to the front door, noting smashed windows and spurts of blood in the floor outside the front door. Harley picked the lock and they peered inside. They saw four hillfolk (from the human tribes of the mountains, similar to where Gotrek came from) wearing chainmail with swords and shields, carousing with 2 leather clad humans from the city. Strangely all were wearing red sashes around their waists. Morgan detected evil inside the room and the group prepared to kick the door down and crash the party....
