Session 03
General Summary
Expecting to be set upon by another wave of mad goblins the party quickly searched the fallen
foes around them and Harley expertly cut the ears off all the goblins he could - being worth five
gold pieces an ear it was gruesome but valueable work. They began to head back towards they
way out but performed a very brief search of the area they had fought in on their way. They left
the complex by the way they came in and took the still unconscious body of Orak with them. Him
they took back across the city to the Baracks and handed him over to a sleepy Sergant Krylar who
they had woken with their news. Sergant Krylar immediately dispatched a partol to go and guard
the Bathhouse. Then Magma Force also retired for the night, knowing that they would have to
return to the underground dwarven complex soon enough the next day to continue their search for
Drakthar.
Waking late the next day they spend some time wandering the shops of the city, selling off wares
and treasures. A patrol also arrived at the Drunken Morkoth bearing three hundred gold reward for
goblin ears recovered. Had they really killed thirty goblins in that mad fight? Come the early
afternoon, after a swift luncheon, the party returned to the Bathhouse to find it was indeed guarded
by a patrol of city watch, who let them inside. They opened the locked door and headed down into
the complex once more.
They were immediately struck by how quiet it was in here compared to the last time they were
there. They spent an hour or so searching through the abandoned dwarven complex which had
obviously been settled by goblins for some considerable time now. The goblins appeared to have
left though, or else perhaps all the goblins who had lived here had been involved in the huge
running battle of the night before. There was only one obvious exit from the complex and that was
a long sloping natural tunnel which lead off into the darkness. The same tunnel which the Silent
Wolf Goblin had ridden off down. Seeing no other choice the party set off down this long sloping
tunnel.
A few hundred feet down this tunnel opened up into a four way intersection. As the party were
looking at this area ahead thinking that it would be a prime location for an ambush, they were
ambushed. Three goblin sneaks, armed with miniature crossbows, appeared on a ledge to the
party's left and above them. At the same time half a dozen of the pesky goblin skirmishers rushed
out of a side passage, supported by another goblin adept. And around a corner from the other
direction came the Silent Wolf Goblin on worg back. Again, carnage broke loose. The party were
a hardy bunch however and were fully rested from their long sleep since the night before, so
though it would have been a very close fight on the back of the last melee in the upper chambers,
at this time the party were able to cut the goblins to shreds with little problems.
However, just as the last goblin was being mown down, up from the darkness of the long natural
corridor shambled a lone figure. This tall, skinny figure looked like a bedraggled bugbear. It was
thin and bloodied and carried a large shield with many tongues and hands nailed to it. It staggered
to the edge of the party's light and eyed the group. The party were not sure but thought that maybe
this creature was the evil Drakthar they were looking for. Morgan used his holy power to sense if
it was evil and as he did so (confirming that it was), the creature locked eyes with the paladin and
licked his lips, saying that paladin's blood was always the most tasty. The creature introduced
itself as Drakthar the Bloodmonger and launched into an attack.
The fight was Drakthar was short and bloody. If he was indeed a vampire then he refrained from
using some of the more legendary attacks that a vampire would normally use. Perhaps he was just
supremely confident in his martial prowess and figured he could destroy these heroes easily?
Either way his regenerative powers meant that he stayed on his feet long after other creatures
would have fallen to the combined onslaught of the men of Magma Force. In addition to that the
silvered weapons that Braken had recommend they bring paid off as these weapons did hurt the
fiend, even as he regenerated much of the damage they did to him. Finally, Gotrek, enraged as
most had not seen him before, dropped his shield, grabbed his huge axe in two hands and with a
viscious scream chopped the head right off the bugbear vampire!
But even that could not kill Drakthar the Bloodmonger. Instead the bugbear simply transformed
into gas and started to float off. Braken, the local vampire expert, realised this meant he must be
heading back to his coffin to regain his form, so they party chased this floating gaseous shape off
down the corridor.
Unfortunately around the next corner was a large room with a ledge high up in it. The gaseous
cloud drifted up towards the ledge and the party realised they could not easily follow it there.
Furthermore a goblin sneak appeared there and began to fire crossbow bolts at the party. Leading
up out of the same room was a natural staircase which the party hurtled up, hoping it would enable
them to get to where Drakthar was floating off to. They bundled into a small room at the top of the
stairs and there they ran straight into a surprised goblin adept with two small blue lizards as pets.
The lizards, seeming very scared by this intrusion huddled together and in doing so seemed to
generate a powerful electrical field which went off with a massive bang, shocking the party and
badly hurting many of them. Harley tumbled past them to the Adept and before the goblin had
time to do much else than quaff a potion, hhe skewered it on his rapier. The others quickly killed
the two lizards, worried that they might shock them again.
The party grouped together and prepared to open the door from the room, hoping it would lead to
where Drakthar's gaseous form was floating off towards his coffin...
