Session 03
General Summary
Magma Force faced perhaps their greatest challenge yet: a pyroclastic dragon of immense size.
But they truly were heroes like those not seen since the olden days and they unleashed the full fury
of their might upon the dragon, quickly ripping him to shreds.
Behind a large tapestry in his chambers they found a huge pile of dragon treasure and hidden
inside the pile was a distinctive artifact: the Dispersal Collar, the artifact needed to stop the
formation of the portal to Carceri. They collected this valuable item and took ten minutes to rest
and recover their thoughts before heading out deeper into the Fiery Sanctum in search of the Tree
of Shackled Souls.
Deeper in the complex after numerous fights with various devils and demons in the employ of the
Cagewrights, the group came across Freija Doorgan and her orc guards. They steamed in, laying
waste to the orcs and quickly overcame this senior Cagewright. Searching through her papers they
discovered complex notes on the Dispersal Collar and its operation. It appeared that Freija had
created the Dispersal Collar herself and so knew exactly how it was supposed to work.
Further still Magma Force pushed into the complex, searching for the Tree of Shackled Souls.
They encountered numerous further guardians who slowly wore our heroes down with their
constant battling. Eventually, however, tired and worn almost to the point of exhaustion, the group
opened a secret door and looked upon the goal they had been searching for.
The massive elliptical chamber glowed with a hellish light from lava bubbling through shaped
channels that formed a familiar pattern in the floor. These rivers of lava formed the sign of the
Carcerian Eye, and from the eye's pupil grew a horrendous sight. A large tree of metal errupted
from the lava there. Thirteen branches spouted from a central trunk several feet across, twisting
menacingly around the chamber to increase the diameter of the area occupied by the tree to nearly
sixty feet. The branches were covered in wicked barbs, but each branch tapered to end in a hook.
From each hook hung a cage, and within each cage they saw the slumped form of a humanoid
figure. These must be the Shackleborn they thought - individuals cursed by fate to be the keys to
unlocking the gate to Carceri. And this must be the Tree of Shackled Souls.
Across the chamber stood a huge bloated and hideous creature with two heads and wings. Dyr'ryd,
the leader of the Cagewrights. Around the chamber were a selection of devils and cambions
including a hulking Gelugon - an ice devil - which looked out of place in this fiery chamber.
Magma Force rushed in and concentrated all their significant fire power on Dyr'ryd on the
assumption that if they could fell him the rest would capitulate. And fell him they did, although a
few of their number almost perished in the attempt.
