Session 04
General Summary
Magma Force had just had an epic battle with four ogres and a hill giant. They were beaten and
battered but aware that retreating would give this complex the chance to wake up to the fact they
had been here. So they decided to press on for now. They checked out the passage way that the
hill giant had come from and found it lead to a little guard room which overlooked the portcullis.
This guardroom had a large stool and a pile of handy rocks piled up in it. There were no other
exits so they returned to the ogre room and headed up the other open passageway. Here Harley, on
point as usual, spotted two sleeping giants, these ones each had two heads! Harley and Camero
snuck in, hoping to surprise the ettins, but one of the heads was actually awake and this ettin lept
to its feet as the two snuck in. Battle errupted as Camero threw a magical web over the rising ettin,
but with its great speed and strong limbs it was able to struggle out and into the main chamber.
Morgan and Braken joined the fight and it was on in earnest. Two ettins were no match for our
brave heroes, although they hit very hard and Braken had to spennd much of his time making sure
Morgan stayed on his feet as both ettins seemed happy to pummel him into the ground. Eventually
though, both were defeated and a tired and battered party searched them and then took stock of
their situation.
Deciding they were too beaten up to carry on the group retreated back into the guardroom where
the hill giant had been lairing. They used the beds of the ettins and ogres to make a makeshift
barricade and brought all the bodies up there too, so as to reduce the chances of randomly
wandering giants from finding them. Amazingly the next eight or so hours passed uneventfully -
perhaps they had killed all the giants? The sounds of metal on metal continued through this time,
on and off, and it became clear that they were listening to what was probably a forge somewhere
in the complex. About 40 minutes before the group roused themselves for another foray, the
hammering stopped. It was now a little after mdnight but Magma Force were aware that the
soldiers of Cauldron would probably arrive at the walls of Redgorge sometime after the sun rose,
if they were not already there, so they had to press on.
The group went back to the Ettin cave and beyond that found a strange corridor. It was perfectly
straight, twenty foot wide and twenty foot high, and perfectly smooth. The ceiling had occasional
magical light plates built into it, illuminating the whole area with a soft grey light. A pair of
double doors were to the left and at the end of the long corridor to the right there was a turning
from which they guessed the forge noises had been coming earlier. They went back into the ogre
cave and approached the double doors there which also, they figured, lead into the forge. As they
reached the doors they were surpised as both huge stone doors slid silently up into the ceiling out
of sight at their approach. Beyond was a large domed hall with a huge forge lit with magical
glowing blue flames. A massive fire giant sat on a chair in the corner next to a big chest. In
another corner was a platinum and silver cage, some 7 foot high. And in the middle of the room
was a giant anvil and hammer and resting on them a massive suit of armour.
The fire giant looked up from his chair and beckoned for the party to enter. He introduced himself
as Dugobras and asked them their names. The group spoke politely with him for some time and he
was impressed with them so agreed to tell them his tale. It turned out that he had once worked for
the Ebon Triad for a woman called Grehlia and with Triel, Skaven and Tarkilar. He had been hired
by Grehlia to help make cages like the one in the corner, which was a prototype he said he kept as
a momento. He called these cages Soulcages. After they were forged Grehlia had taken the cages
and disappeared. He guessed to go to the people who had asked her to make the cages. He had
then abandoned Triel and the others and come here in search of a rumour of a powerful magical
forge - which he had found - and he was now crafting himself a new suit of armour. Camero
studied the cage and realised it was not magical but it had the potential to be very much so.
dugobras announced himself pleased to have met the "flameless ones" and gave them each a fire
opal to remember him with. He also agreed to swap the magical orb he had in his chest with the
one Camero had in his possession. Morgan told the giant their purpose here and he said that he
had seen a man answering Alek's description here a few times - the last time maybe a week ago.
He said Alek came here to do business with the sisters who lived in the ruins. The party and
Dugobras parted on good terms.
Heading south the party came into a huge round chamber and as they were exploring it three
angelic figures approached from a side passage. They welcomed the heroes, thanking them for
saving them from the evil oppression of the giants. They also offered our heroes a drink from the
nectar of the gods, but all of Magma Force declined, wary of the effect this elixir seemed to have
upon Alek. The angels said that Alek was indeed here, trying to pass a test deeper in the complex.
They set off deeper in and Magma Force followed. They soon came to a room with a raised tier
upon which the angels now congregated. There was a brief discussion as the Angels explained that
Alek was beyond the door to the side of them and that the party should follow him. The group
were very dstrustful after Nidrama's warning but the angels appeared truthful. The group moved
into the room with the intent of heading after Alek.
The moment they stepped into the room, however, everything happened at once. The stone door
behind them slid shut as they stepped in. At the same time the three angels transformed before
their very eyes, each turning into evil, horrible looking crones! One even grew to the size of an
ogre as she changed shape. Magma Force had indeed been duped into the lair of three witches and
those witches now attacked!
