Session 05

General Summary

With the evil Lich now surrounded by Harley and Morgan the others moved into a position where they could effectively target it with their long ranged attacks. Morgan and Braken focused radiant damage upon it to stop it regenerating and Harley and the others unleashed as much of their power as they could and soon the lich was killed. Upon its death it turned to dust and crumbled into nothing, leaving only a valuable gem and a magical amulet behind.   The group gathered together and approached the golden armoured mummy who was here to oversee the final part of the Test of the Smoking Eye. He told them that to pass the test they had to sacrifice an ally and then Occipitus would be theirs! Hearing this an evil smile spread across the face of their companion, Kaurophon's face and before they knew what had happened he had summoned six demons to his aid and the demons and the psychic mage half-demon attacked Magma Force! Camero reacted quickly and dropped a web onto Kaurophon and three of the demons. But all the other demons rushed and surrounded Harley, the bearer of Alakast, and probably the party member who did the most damage. He was not as tough as Morgan though so this was a great threat to his safety. Morgan and Braken rushed to Harley's aid whilst Camero continued to blast the area with spells.   Slowly the summoned demons managed to get out of the web spell and all swarmed around Harley. He was almost taken down but managed to escape. He dodged past many of the demons and reached Kaurophon and stabbed him. Morgan also rushed the mage and Braken and Camero continued to blast him from range. The mage simply could not withstand this amount of damage and he was soon felled. This still left the six demons he had conjured though and they were now starting to swarm all over Camero and Braken, both of whom were nearly overwhelmed. But once the first demon or two were taken down the fight swung rapidly in the party's favour and within a short time they were left victorious.   The group searched Kaurophon, finding a scroll with a ritual on it which would take them back to the Cathedral of Wee Jas in Cauldron. They then threw Kaurophon's body into the gusher in the centre of the room and it was instantly consumed by the raging fires. They then gathered together and tried to decide what to do next. Morgan volunteered to be thrown into the fires and sacrificed, but Braken refused to be involved in killing his own friend. Harley and Camero thought long and hard and in the end decided that they too did not want to perform such an act and so they decided to fail the Test of the Smoking Eye and return back to Cauldron. The apologied to the mummy who seemed entirely unconcerned, and then Camero read the scroll and created a gate back to Cauldron. The group stepped through the gate and found themselves in the Cathedral of Wee Jas, back at home.   A surprised and slightly annoyed Ike Everson rushed up to find out what the group were doing in his cathedral but they quickly appologised and left, finding themselves on the streets of Cauldron. They immediately realised something was wrong. The streets were nearly deserted, the only people on them hurrying from place to place looking around in a worried way. And they saw many groups of blue tabbard wearing half orcs, moving around the city like patrols. Something was up and there was a real sense of fear on the streets. The group rushed to the Church of St. Cuthbert to speak to High Priestess Jenya.   Jenya was very glad to have Magma Force back safe and sound but was distressed to learn of Alek Tercival's death. She told them the city was under Martial Law as in the last week the Mayor had mysteriously disappeared. The city council had voted to bring Lord Vhalantru in as a temporary replacement for now. He had ordered Martial Law and flooded the streets with patrols of half orcs from the Blue Duke's mercenary band.   Camero rushed off to visit Shensen and she told him that her boss in the Striders of Fharlanghn wanted to see her. He met Meerthan and was invited to become a Strider himself which he agreed to. Meerthan set up a ritual giving Camero a permanent telepathic link to the leader of the group. Meerthan told Camero the Striders were in Cauldron to find out about a group called the Cagewrights. These people were responsible for much of the strife in the city of recent times and had to be stopped. The group were able to share their information with the Striders and gained some information in return.   Jenya tried to bring Alek back from the dead with a powerful ritual but Alek's spirit did not want to return so he was buried in a quiet service in the Church. Morgan realised that this meant he was now in line to become Lord Tercival and sure enough later that day he was summoned to the Town Hall to see Lord Vhalantru the next morning. All of Magma Force went along and Morgan was told he was now Lord Tercival and that this position meant he had inheritted the Tercival Estate in Redgorge. He was also entitled to be called Lord and he had a seat on the city council. This was a great honour for him but there was one problem. The village of Redgorge was currently under seige by an army of demons lead by Nabthatoron, the Lord of the Demonskar. Magma Force realised they needed to go to Redgorge and save the village - and in doing so they would need to confront Nabthatoron...
