Session 06
General Summary
Things looked bleak. Nemesis was on the floor bleeding to death. Varro was stunned. Everyone
was battered and down to their lowest ebb. There were still plenty of angry kruthiks. Time to go.
Shinobi dodged a couple of attacks and used his athletic abilties to escape and dash for freedom.
Mika did likewise, almost as fast. Argus was somewhat slower, fending off kruthik attacks as he
went. Nemesis and Varro were left to a grisly fate as kruthik food.
One small triumph amongst the carnage. The captured crocodile was where they had left it...
Shinobi, Mika and Argus departed the sewers and returned to the gladiator school. Before long
they were reporting to Sister Valerius. She was disappointed to have lost two promising gladiators
and alarmed at the prospect of a kruthik infestation below the city. The crocodile was a minor sop.
It seems others were likewise unfortunate. The Poachers team had been in a silver mine hunting
down kobolds when they'd run into a dragon. Only two had made it back alive, a ranger named
Dash and a cleric named Valun.
Three and two makes five. A full gladiator team once more, with the Nex Pervenio name
enduring. Despite not having met before, all were keen to put their recent woes behind them and
work well together as a team. They promised Sister Valerius they would return to the kruthik lair
the following day to cleanse the vermin.
Shinobi spent the remainder of the day making discrete enquiries on matters of personal interest.
The next day, 5th January, Nex Pervenio returned to the sewers and the kruthik lair. It was quieter
than before and it seemed the kruthiks had dropped back to their main chamber. Argus led the
way. As he reached the entrance, acid and spikes flew at him and then the largest kruthik, a rager,
charged him and rended with claws. He nearly dropped. Dash and Mika provided missile support.
Shinobi was the rearguard against a skimmer which had rapidly scooted around adjoining tunnels
to hem then in. Valun was as able a healer as Varro. The rager soon dropped under focus fire,
others soon followed and the gladiators regrouped. A couple of kruthiks fled rather than fight any
longer.
The kruthiks had left some treasure. There were also the possessions of Varro and Nemesis to be
retrieved from the remains of their devoured corpses. Nice.
A tunnel from the lair led south. It went on a long way, winding and snaking about. It led above
ground, somewhere south of the city. What looked like another kruthik tunnel was spotted nearby.
Also nearby was a grand and finely decorated building. Closer inspection revealed it to be a
mausoleum dedicated to Emperor Hadrian, a famous historical figure from Rodinia's past.
Before investigating further, Nex Pervenio reported in to their superiors. They were soon speaking
with Sister Valerius. She was concerned at the news of further kruthik infestation and authorised
them to continue to investigate and purge.
The rest of the day was spent quietly researching in the library. Emperor Hadrian was the topic.
His reign was around 500 years ago. He was a former gladiator! He'd worked his way from slave
to emperor, an inspirational tale. His predecessor's rule was blighted with cultist attacks. Hadrian
led a ruthless and victorious military campaign against them. After his death, a grand mausoleum
was constructed in his honour. His former gladiator team mates were accorded hero's burials in
there too.
Shinobi continued his personal inquiries into the Scorpions.
