Session 07
General Summary
Prompted to search for the Dawn War weapons cache the party remounted their phantom steeds
and examined the map they had received from the Raven Queen. This map now showed their
current location and a flashing location some miles away which was the Dawn War cache they
were heading for. They flew off, not too high from the ground, until they reached the pinnacle of
black obsidian rock which rose straight into the air. From its top shone subtle silver light. They
landed one at a time and dispelled their phantom steeds. The silver glow was coming from a shaft
which dropped into the rock. Looking down this shaft opened into a large cavern inside the rock
pinnacle.
Camero incanted some words and summoned a magical lift which the group climbed onto and
which then descended into the cavern. As they descended they found themselves in a large oval
chamber with three massive doors at the far end. In the middle of the chamber was a blue
crackling stasis field. Inside this magical vault was a floating set of Dawn War armour and a
Dawn War weapon. Each person perceived the weapon and armour to be one which they could
use. The stasis vault was a magical field which would disrupt anyone trying to bypass it, blasting
them with eldritch energy and throwing them backwards.
Harley could see it was a web of magical lines and with incredible dexterity he somehow managed
to squeeze and wriggle his way into the stasis vault through the magical web. But once inside he
was subject to the vault's secondary attack on his mind, which all but stunned him. He realized he
wasn't going to be able to grab the contents of the vault and so as quickly as he was able he
retreated back out again.
Unfortunately it seemed that was enough to release the guardians of the chamber. The doors
opened the three colossal astral warwings emerged. These were ancient constructs created by the
gods at the time of the Dawn War to be their soldiers. But Magma Force had not come through so
much without being capable warriors themselves and within moments the astral constructs were
reduced to silvery mist as the party unleashed their full force on them.
With the chamber quiet once more Camero turned his mind to the stasis vault. With great skill,
knowledge and training he was able to bring down each of the cornerstones of the vault, one by
one. The vault may have thrown a few blasts of eldritch magic his way in the process but it was
nothing that Braken couldn't fix up. The group collected the items, Camero taking the armour and
Harley the weapon, and returned to their magical lift which took them back out of the pinnacle.
From here Camero simply thought of Nerull's Gate once more and the location appeared back on
the map again. He summoned more magical steed and the group flew off for the north. Soon, at a
time they felt night should be falling f there was such a thing in this place, they reached the gate
which was created by the gods in the Dawn War as their way into this plane. The gate comprised
of a circular bridge in a bowl shaped valley. Stood under this bridge was a huge six-armed
maralith demon. Floating above the bridge was a flaming skull and on either side were a pair of
petrified treants which the group realized were actually undead. The maralith was reading a tomb -
reciting a ritual which appeared to be trying to refocus the gate and where it was tied to.
Morgan and Gotrek charged in, closely followed by Harley and Sora. They unleashed what they
could on the maralith, identifying her as the leader. The flaming skull through a fire storm at the
group which hurt many of them but soon the maralith fell and then it was only a matter of time.
The two treants were disoriented by a powerful spell from Camero and were swarmed by his
companions. The flaming skull, seeing the battle was lost, flew off into the distance very quickly.
What was the maralith up to? What was her ritual book about? What would happen when the
group read the ritual to summon the Raven Queen in this place? It was time to find out...
