Session 07
General Summary
Breakfast on 6th January. Disturbing news swirled around the mess hall. The Ensigns had been
found dead, in their dormitory, seemingly poisoned! Much idle speculation and gossip but few
facts. Nex Pervenio shrugged their shoulders and got back to work. Down into the sewers and the
kruthik tunnels. Alert for bandits and tracks but all seemed quiet and as they'd left it. Emerged
above ground once more, outside the city.
Scouted around Hadrian's tomb. All quiet and undisturbed. Lichen, moss and fallen leaves
everywhere. No evidence of tracks or indeed traps. Door seems locked and sealed still. The lock
appears finely made yet rusted by the passage of time, probably difficult to open.
Headed to the other kruthik tunnel. Cautiously entered and began exploring. Soon reached a
crossroads, evidently the site of a big combat. Dead kruthiks and dead Rodinian bandits on the
floor, had been there a couple or few weeks. The bodies had already been rifled for cash. Three
other tunnels to investigate.
Checked north west first. This tunnel broke into Hadrian's tomb! Rubble and fallen masonry
spilled into an otherwise beautifully decorated room, walls decorated with magnificent friezes
depicting Hadrian at his zenith. Another kruthik tunnel marred the opposite wall, emanating faint
sounds of scrabbling. There was a break in the floor tiles, perhaps a pit, tunnel or shaft? Nobody
dared set foot inside the tomb itself.
Checked south east next. More dead bodies, all kruthiks this time, mainly young and hatchlings.
Followed faint scrabbling sounds to discover kruthiks digging - but these were zombie kruthiks!
Had they been turned undead by magic emanating from the tomb? They were accompanied by a
clay scout, a small construct. Battle was joined with Nex Pervenio prevailing with barely a
scratch.
The tunnel continued to a large chamber. A small fire at the far end illuminated a necromancer
going about his work to animate more kruthiks as zombies. Human zombies stood to defend him.
Nex Pervenio moved in and engaged the undead. A couple of the zombies exploded in showers of
gore after being hit partiularly fiercely. An imp popped out of nowhere and harassed Valun. The
necromancer and a fiery skeleton unleashed magic from afar. Shinobi took the fight to the
necromancer while the skeleton wreaked havoc on Valun and Mika with its fiery aura and flaming
attacks. Valun was saved by a healing potion and he proceeded to save Mika. Meanwhile the
remaining foes were vanquished. Searching the bodies recovered some items of treasure, including
some medals dating to the time of Emperoer Trajan (Hadrian's predecessor).
At this point Nex Pervenio took the opportunity to withdraw back to the safety of the city. They
reported to Sister Valerius that they'd killed more kruthiks yet more remained. They now had to
digest all they had learned and try to make some sense of what was going on, aided by further
research. They also had to decide how much, if anything, to share with others and how much to
keep secret...
