Session 07

General Summary

The fledgling adventuring party, Magma Force, continued in their exploration of Jzadirune, having just taken stock of the magical items they had recovered. They checked their map and compared it to the map Keygan had given them and worked out the areas of Jzadirune they had yet to go to. There were some areas conspicuous by their lack of exploration so far and they were still searching for the leader of the skulks and dark creepers, the creature who held the three skeleton keys.   After a few long and laborious hours the group had covered the entirety of Jzadirune as far as they could tell but had still not located the creature they were searching for. In their exploration of the southern most sections of the complex they had adopted a clever way of sweeping the complex searching areas efficiently and still fairly quickly. They realised they had not covered the northern areas using the same technique and so returned there to continue the search. This search did indeed reveal a new secret door which they had previously missed and it seemed there was someone which did not want them to find what was behind it, as striking from the shadows came a dark creature with a fine rapier and a swirling black cloak. It struck Camero in the back, felling him and then with a swirl of its cloak it disappeared again almost before anyone had acted. Gotrek's keen ears heard the creature leaving the room, perhaps fleeing, and the party chased after him. They lost him then until he once again appeared out of thin air, striking Braken and almost laying him low. The rest of the party rushed in to deal with the threat and then with a swirl of its cloak it was once more gone to the eye. The group collected together and listened carefully. They did not see or hear it coming and then it struck Harley, taking him out. Braken healed him as Gotrek and Morgan swarmed over the dark creature, cutting it down before it had another chance to use its cloak and disappear once more. Upon the creature the party found the three skeleton keys they had been searching for.   The party searched the area behind the new secret door they had found and recovered some more treasure, some of it guarded by another construct which the gnomes had left behind. They also pushed on and explored the last areas of the gnome complex and eventually decided they had recovered all the treasure they could find and had thoroughly searched the whole area. They decided it was time to leave Jzadirune for the last time.   The group made their way up the stairs, out into Keygan's locksmithing shop and out into the streets of Cauldron. It was now dark - they had been inside the complex all day and into the night. They collected their treasures from the shop and headed off to the Church of St. Cuthbert where they reported on their successes to acting High Priestess Jenya. She praised them for finding the skeleton keys and healed them of most of their wounds. After that there was nothing left to do but return home to the Drunken Morkoth for a bath, some good food and a nice long drink. The next morning the party were summoned by Sergeant Skylar to the Houses of Justice, across the road from the Drunken Morkoth. There the trial of Keygan Ghelve took place. Before the trial the group witnessed Lord Vhalantru speaking with High Priestess Embril of the Cathedral of Wee Jas. Lord Vhalantru came over to speak to them and congratulated them on their successes. Also present were acting High Priestess Jenya and Lord Commander Terseon.   At the trial, Lord Terseon presented the case against Keygan, and Lord Vhalantru, High Priestess Embril and High Priestess Jenya sat on the panel. Morgan was called forth to recount the events leading up to Keygan's arrest and spoke of the poor gnome's terrible plight having had his rat familiar Starbrow kidnapped and that he only did what he did under duress. Morgan's speach went down well with the panel and Keygan's sentence was lightened.   Keygan was found guilty of 25 counts of aiding and abbetting kidnapping. He was sentenced to house arrest until he had replaced all the locks he had made in the city. In addition his house and shop became a guard post for the city guard, to watch over the entrance to Jzadirune and the Underdark which was there.   On the steps of the courthouse on the way out after the trial Annah Taskerhil, renowned speaker and leader of the Stormblades, congratulated the party on their successes. She told all those assembled that of course the Stormblades would have solved the mystery but they were busy out of town saving the dwarves from the Burning Plague. But then she went on to infer that perhaps the party were so successful because they had inside knowledge of the situation. Were they, in fact, involved? Morgan and Harley stepped to the front as many townsfolk listened in to the building verbal exchange. Morgan and Harley strongly rebuked the Stormblades for their accusations without proof and in the heated argument which followed the Paladin and Rogue turned the crowd to their favour over the Stormblades. It was a small victory but a sweet one and the Stormblades melted off into the crowds with looks of evil on their faces.   The party now took the opportunity to go and sell their spoils. They visited Gunezarn's smithy to sell their better weapons and hand in weapons and armour to be upgraded by the master smith. They sold their run of the mill weapons and armour to the various Lathenmire smiths around the city. They visited Tygot at Tygot's Old Things and there sold many of their trinkets, jewelry and paintings. They went to Almeda the Moneylenders and got rid of their gems and changed up some coins. Almeda made a point of praising the Stormblades as they had saved some of his clan in the mountains. They of course visited Skie and talked to her about selling some of their magical gains. Then they visited Weers Elixirs and spoke with the old and contankerous Vortimax Weer. They came to realise that he was a powerful wizard as well as potion brewer and he also had little or no time for idiots, but unfortunately he clearly considered the party mostly such. After some discussions he advised them not to keep any magic which they had recovered from the complex of Jzadirune as any of it could be infected with the Vanishing. He also explained his theory that Jzadirune, the gnome who designed the complex, had probably stumbled upon an ancient Spellweaver complex and one of their ancient curses was probably responsible for the Vanishing. That was Vortimax's theory anyway. Vortimax bought all the magic items they recovered off them "for research purposes".   The party then spent some downtime relaxing after their manic introduction to the city. They revelled in the cash they had acquired, they upgraded their equipment, purchasing a few magical trinkets from Skie's Treasury, or getting minor enchants put onto their gear at the University. During this time the citizens of the city began to talk about the upcoming Flood Festival. The party began to learn about the compeitions which the Temple of Kord were organising for this year and about the annual 'Drink Back The Flood' city-wide drinking competition, preliminary rounds of which were just starting in various establishments around the city.   They also heard stories of the legendary Demonskar Ball, the masked ball for the nobles of the city where the Battle of Demonskar and the founding of the city itself was remembered and celebrated.
