Session 08

General Summary

The evening of the Demonskar Ball had finally come.   The party were ready for collection in their elaborate costumes when the ruby coach turned up to collect them. They travelled around Obsidian Avenue to the Coy Nixie and found hordes of commoners gathered there watching the nobles arrive. Their entrance was greeted with great cheers (and boos for Harley who was wearing a demon costume). They entered in and made their way into the foyet where they partook some nibbles and a glass of wine or juice. In the foyet they spotted three out of four of the Stormblades and exchanged winks, smiles and bows with them - all with a hint of menace of course.   They spotted Lord Vhalantru who was chatting to a gorgeous noble lady. Morgan went over and he introduced her as Celeste, a noble from Sasserine. The group chatted to the pair for a while, talking about taxes and half orc mercenaries as guards and which was most important in the city, protection of guards or repair of its buildings. Vhalantru then spent some time going through what was to happen in the course of the ball so that the party were not going to be embarrassed. He hinted that perhaps they were invited here as a setup, which Harley agreed with. Morgan also chatted to Ophellha, the owner of the Cusp of Sunrise, and she told him that she was a great friend of High Priestess Jenya and had heard great things of the group. She warned him to avoid any more than a sip of the Bubbling Cauldron drink later in the banquet. The amazingly suited Demonskar Herald then called everyone through for the line up.   The party met the Aslaxins who were the main hosts. They did a great job of impressing them. They met Embril, the stunning High Priestess of Wee Jas, who Braken flirted with and who got a wink from her. She offered her churches' services if they needed any magical help. They met the hulking half orc high priest of Kord who ridiculed them for their lack of success in the Games of the Flood Festival. They met Lord Alek Tercival, Morgan's cousin, who was wearing full plate armour and a sword which was very strange but he said he was above such traditions as costumes. He was overjoyed to see Morgan and told the party he had been away on business in the Redgorge area.   Then after the line up the Song of Heaven competition took place. No one competed with Annah Taskerhill so she was crowned the angel Nidrama for the second year running. During the Song of Heaven dance, Cora tried to trip Braken but with some incredibly amazing footwork he sent her sprawing across the floor. She fled, embarrassed. If looks could kill. The ball then moved on to the first main and proper dance. This dance was to crown the Mayor and Mayoress of Liduton. It cememorated the catastrophy of the Haunted Village. Harley managed to grab the chancellor as his partner. Camero grabbed Cora who was unhappy about it. Braken was first to Embril's arm. Morgan was partnered with Ophellha. And Gotrek somehow managed to partner Annah Taskerhill. Half way through the dance Braken and Embril were swirling away when Braken misjudged his speed and clattered into another couple, sending himself and Embril sprawling across the floor. She smiled graciously at him, depsite all the laughter coming their way, especially from the Stormblades of course. Morgan noted that behind that smile, when it seemed no one was looking, Embril looked at Braken with such hatred it caused him to worry. Later in the same dance, Gotrek's bumbling feet caused him and Annah to clash into another couple so they too were removed from the dance. As the music came to an end both Morgan and Harley moved their partners into position to end in the middle and win the dance. With a final spin Harley grabbed the chancellor and whirled her into a winning position! Harley and his partner were crowned the Mayor and Mayoress of Liduton for the evening!   After this dance, the Demonskar Herald once again called for the guests to move downstairs to the huge cresent shaped feast hall and to take their tables for the Demonskar Banquet. The party were seated with a sad looking gnome, a huge hulking half orc, a pair of toffee nosed looking nobles, a dwarf they recognised as a guest in the Drunken Morkoth, and none other than Vortimax Weer. It was going to be an interesting meal...
