Session 3

General Summary

The party once again returned to the depths of the Underdark, passing through many passages and caverns along the way. They encountered many scarlet children, including an entire band of exheadhunters who had become infected. They had still found no sign of the headhunters' leader, who was named Bladestorm. They did however find three weapons discarded by an underground river which bore her name. Following the river downstream they came across a cave and huddled in the cave they found Bladestorm - asleep, battered and bruised but alive and uninfected.   Continuing deeper into the caves they eventually came across a huge scarlet lake and on a beach overlooking it an abandoned monastery. The monastery had many runes and carvings on the walls. Traubon began to discipher them but they didn't make a great deal of sense to the group. From the upper windows the group could see out across the lake to the far side where they saw an town nestled into the lake side. They decided to investigate. Bladestorm said her farewells and returned to the surface to report on their progress.   The city was made by the amphibian race known as the kuo-toa. It was apparently empty of any inhabbitance though, until they entered one of the houses on one of the islands - then they discovered it to be full of kuo-toans who had been turned to scarlet children. In this house they also discovered some more murals which added to the clues they'd found earlier. They decided to visit the biggest building on this walled island - it looked palatial. They entered and killed a few more scarlet children who looked like they might once have been noble kuo-toans from their rich looking dress. Then they found the main palace throne room. It was full of kua-toan guards, all turned to scarlet children, and the kua-toan king and some bodyguards. They were all trained in unarmed combat and Kai found himself overmatched when he tried to take on all the kua-toan monks. Eventually though the party won through and defeated them. The walls of the palace throne room told the whole story of the Scarlet Lord and his imprisonment under the lake. They told of magical tablets inscribed by the kua-toan priest Sifkhu and of how these tablets held spells to bind the Scarlet Lord. Apparently every few decades the Scarlet Lord starts to slip his bindings but was always repulsed by the priests using these tablets. Now, however there are no priests left in the city.   The murals gave instructions on how to reach the tablets. The heroes now just have to decide what to do with this knowledge...
