Session 3
General Summary
The group cut the heart from the recently slain Ashardalon, discovering it to be a beautiful ruby,
glowing with an inner light. They then climbed up to Dragon's Perch in order to see where the
Hall of Dragons lay. They could see the golden building north of them, in a valley deep in the
mountains. Looking south they could also see a huge army of orcs laying siege to Thistledelve.
They headed north towards the Hall and a couple of days later were nearly there when they were
ambushed in a ravine by four hulking frost giants. Even from surprise four giants are no match for
these heroes and they soon dispatched them, searching them for a bit a treasure. Arundel changed
form into a bird and scouted the area and sure enough found a large dark cave that was likely their
home. He entered, taking the form of a small rodent, but was immediately set upon by a group of
winter wolves. He escaped and returned to the others. They approached the lair and fought a small
group of frost giant guards and wolves, fairly easily dispatching them and recovering their
treasure.
Deeper into the frost giant lair they came across a large pillared hall in which was stationed the
frost giant jarl, his shaman and four more guards. A huge fight ensued and the giants were
defeated although it was quite close at times. The party recovered more trivial treasure and left the
ice lair happy in the knowledge that another stronghold of evil had been defeated.
The party headed on further into the mountains and soon came to the area that they believed held
the golden building that they thought was the Hall of Dragons. Ahead lay an impenetrable
mountain ridge which was dotted with tunnels. They spent a day searching the tunnels and
eventually found a secret door leading into a worked stone entrance hall. Here there were two
giant dragon statues that animated and challenged them, asking what they were here for. The
group showed them Ashardalon's heart and told the dragons they were here to return the heart.
They were allowed through.
The group passed through a complex little maze, wiping out a small band of kobolds who lived
there along the way, and picking up three keys - one gold, one silver and one copper. At the end of
the maze was a platinum door which required the three keys to open. Opening this door took them
out into a huge valley with steps cut into the side descending towards a great golden domed
building - what they believed was the Hall of Dragons!
They entered the valley, seeing it was enclosed on all sides by steep impenetrable mountains, and
approached the golden edifice. This place was guarded by two eight foot tall draconian
humanoids. They asked the party their business and when told they were bringing a heart to bury
the party were escorted through the Golden Citadel to the resting room of the General in charge of
these guardians. He asked the group their names and it was clear he was expecting them. He told
them they must take Blaze's heart to the Hall of Dragons. The sentry who showed them in took
them to the entrance to the Hall.
The Hall of Dragons was built into the side of the mountain. Another platinum door barred the
way in. Opening this revealed another huge chamber with a pair of immense golden doors. They
opened the doors and found themselves in a dim cavern, stretching off into the distance as far as
they could see. In recesses all through the Hall they could see the hearts of Dragons, still beating
with internal light as they whispered to on another.
Soon a mote of golden light appeared and led them to an empty niche. They placed Ashardalon's
heart in the niche and the ancient dragon's voice spoke to them once more. It thanked them for
laying it to rest and told them that it would reward them by fulfilling any one wish they had. After
a brief discussion they asked Ashardalon to give them proof of the traitor in the upper hierarchy of
Albion. Ashardalon said he could not do that but he could tell them that there were in fact TWO
traitors. So, the groups' fears about a traitor were both confirmed and made worse as they
discovered this bad news.
Leaving the Hall, the party returned to the Citadel where the General took them to a secret treasure
horde where he gave them the Book of Vitiris, saying it had been placed here by the wizard Titus
about 1000 years before and that he had foretold they would come. The party took the Book and
prepared to leave the Valley of the Dragons behind forever...
